Its slogging at least it is here. Old word that pretty much means to hit someone, something or work hard ie a hard slog.
Thinking about it Flogging could also fit.

I saw this on an online dictionary - definition of a flogging hammer. If there are flogging chisels maybe there are flogging spanners?

Definition of flogging hammer
: a small sledgehammer used for driving a flogging chisel or for beating metal

We always referred to them as hammer wrenches in construction. Required lots of trust to be the one holding the wrench while someone else swung the hammer.

Considering your forum handle, I'll take your word for it.

Luckily, I never did get hit and never hit anyone else, but have seen it happen.

Screen name came from my SCUBA diving days when I had a 4-5' hammerhead shark come in a little too close for comfort.

Or is it "flogging". My dad was always talking about flogging hammers so I am curious.......
Here in the US, I have heard them referred to as SLUGGING wrenches. I have always associated slogging with traval through bad terrain, as slogging through mud.
They say the US and GB are two countries separated by a common language. LOL!!
