Applied the Foundation Armor L3000 concrete hardener/sealer and had sprayed on a little too much in some areas. As noted in their instructions, any spots that have "pooled" will dry as a white residue. An email to Foundation Armor suggested trying a 40 - 80 abrasive rotary grit brush and if that doesn't work to diamond grind with 100 grit then 200 grit.

I'm trying to avoid having to rent a floor maintainer and the diamond pads. Would normal sandpaper on a 5" random orbital work at all for light sanding to remove the white residue?

Sandpaper typically does not work well on concrete. You may want to try a solution of 1 cup white vinegar to 1/2 gallon warm water and scrub with a very short bristle deck brush and see what results you get. Just try a small area. The vinegar is acidic and may help to remove it. If that doesn't work you may have to lightly grind.
