Foundation contractor and costs in CT ?

Hey everyone , just have to introduce myself.
Im closing on my new house in 2 weeks. First big project as I move in will be a garage build. Looking to build a 2 car aprox 24x24.

Right now I have a condo with a tightone car, ive done alot of automotive work for myself and friends and I cant wait to finally have some room!

I also do plumbing & heating by trade so it will also be my workshop mancave




If anyone in central CT has built a garage recently, and wants to recomend a good foundation contractor . And maybe share a price on what you paid for your excavating and foundation work id realy appreciate .

I'm in eastern ct and 3500psi with fibermesh concrete averages around $100-$125 yard depending where you get it. You may find prices vary by area. I would advise learning all you can about concrete mixes, before and after pour care before having any work done. Do your homework. Most concrete installers although very knowledgeable don't seem to offer up info or suggestions if you don't ask the specific question. Learn what you need, think about fibermesh (for help eliminating surface cracks/crazing) during the cure process. Do you need or want rebar, mesh screen, if you are going to epoxy the floor after, don't seal it now because it will need to be removed later. Make sure the slab remains VERY VERY wet for 7 days minimum to help prevent cracking while curing. Cut lines? depends on slab size. Some people say you need them, mine is 3 yrs old (30x30) with fibermesh and screen with no cracks, no cut lines, but I made sure mine cured properly. Internet search for concrete info. The best thing you can do is educate yourself. Don't rely on anyone, search for yourself...

Im moving to Plainville CT, what did you do around your parimeter for your footings and how deep did you go ?

Not to far from me, about 40 minutes away. I have an attached 30x30 garage full two story, in my town,Willimantic, code says footing has to be 8"x16" and the foundation has to extend 42" below grade, that's below the frost line here.

Yup thats the general code around my area aswell. I know theres some floating style foundations that are approved for New England but my garage will be attached to my house so I dont want any chance of future issues.

Mind sharing what your total foundation work costed for your 30x30 ? or did you do it yourself ?

Welcome to Plainville, its great here in central Connecticut, lots of great old machine shops and tag sales with great Garage Journal type stuff. The town is flat, as the name would suggest. In Southington there is F&F Concrete, they've got plenty of trucks canvassing the region with loads of concrete. Good luck on the pour!

$3000. 07/06/09 DCT LLC. site work included fill, had to raise area 18" for the garage area.
Removed 8'x12'x3ft thick old concrete slab, removed 48'x30 ashphalt driveway


$5065. 07/09/09 Flynn Contracting for footings and foundation 30'x30' and a connector from house to garage 15'x18'
footings were 10"x16"
foundation was 8"x54"
included concrete and materials



$1500. 07/13/09 DCT LLC. site work
finished interior of foundation and connector breezeway foundation, compacted etc. Backfilled, graded area


$4290. 08/03/09 Flynn Contracting (pour the floors) 6" thick 3500psi with fibermesh and 6" mesh included concrete and all material.

Thanks, good to see some real world local numbers. Mine will be slightly smaller with alittle less sitework and no connectors. But those numbers seem reasonable to me. Thanks again
