Five years ago I had several loads of crush and run dumped to make a larger parking area behind my garage. I am now looking to enlarge the existing garage onto this area. Since the crush and run packs so well I'm wondering now if I can just put the footers below the frost line or do I need to go to virgin soil. I will check with the local inspectors but curious if anyone has every done this. Photos also show where I will need a wall and to fill in more.

Thanks
Mike

suspect they will want a footer on the hill side on Virgin ground which looks to be about foot or 2, no idea where your frost line is.

I can only zoom so close but they definitely don't put as many fines in your crusher run, as they do around here.

Personally I would excavate to virgin soil. Not worth the chance in my book.

Maybe I'm confused but if the strings in the second pic represent the planned addition, the new wall line seems to be well beyond the previous fill. In that case, you'll need to excavate to the frost line relative to exterior grade. The existing fill is probably adequate to support the new slab on grade and can remain.

Yes you are correct, the strings do outline the the garage. The existing fill is not that deep. It will be easy to dig down to the original ground for the footers. I agree this will be the way it needs to be done.
