Surfing the net the other day and found this link to a 40 page Pdf on the design/layout of Frost protected shallow foundations (FPSF) for heated or unheated structures. It is meant for those looking to shallow up their foundations to save money while still dealing with frost problems. While geared towards those in cold climates it also has a lot of general information that can pertain to any location. Also good for those putting in heated floors.

A lot of good general information on different foundation types, depth of foundations for frost, insulation amount/location/type, backfill under the slab, drainage, etc. Looks to be written in somewhat layman's terms. It is based on the latest "bible" on these types of foundations. Even has some easy chug and plug calculation sections.

Well worth a read for those building garages and houses. May help someone.

Thanks,

Here is what Morton used yesterday on my pole barn. They were trimming the insulation for the poles so it was under the wall of the building and came in 2 feet

Here we are ready for concrete. Hopefully it will be poured on Tuesday.

Steel will be added to the driveway after the inside is poured.
