Direct lift 8k lift

I was raising my lift back up. And then I heard a slight pop so I thought a line burst. I started to take it apart and noticed that the lines were fine. Then I noticed it was leaking on the back side of the cylinder where the mount is. There is no fittings or anything to take apart. So I thought maybe it busted a weld. Then I flip the cylinder over once I got it unbolt it. It looks like we're a burst disc would go. But it is not threaded. Please see picture. Does anyone have any experience. Is it a fitting that gets pressed in. Or did it cleanly rip the threads out?

Never mind I found the piece that came off. It's just a breather screen. Which means it busted the seal inside the cylinder. I just need to rebuild it and I should be back in business. Thank you all

Man that's scary. Was there a vehicle on the lift? Did it drop? Imaging a scenario where my DD is on the lift and this happens...won't be driving it to work come Monday!

We all hope it never happens, but that's what the safety locks are for, and if everything is adjusted correctly the lift would only fall a few inches before contacting the locks.

But yes, your DD would be stuck on the lift until lift repairs are completed. Better than the alternative...

Yes there was a car on the lift. But it's a project. The nice thing is. It broke a seal and it was loud. But honestly it wasn't dropping fast at all. And it did catch on the safety locks. There was no safety concerns luckily.

That's why the DD goes on the floor, not on the lift. The occasional use vehicle makes the top of the lift it's home. :)
Unless you're actually working on the DD. Had mine on the lift recently for an oil change, and plan to do a brake flush on it soon as well.

Great point! A lift is used as a lift for working on DD sometimes for sure. That had escaped my thought process...

I was thinking 4 post = vehicle storage only.
