Hi, my name is Brian, and I am new to the forum. There is a bunch of info here on OBD2 scanners, and I have some questions about the Foxwell NT510.
Im just a small, solo mechanic, and I rebuild Automatic Transmissions, as well as work on everything from brakes, rearends, Hvac, too engine building. I have did this for 30+ years, and the only scanner I've owned is the older Actron 9145 Scanner, which has been really helpful over the years on most things. Well, I wanted something that can do Transmission, ABS, and SRS as well, so I just ordered the Autel MD802 "All System" scanner a couple days ago, I haven't even received it yet, but researched it alot, and it seemed to be one of the better liked scanners below $300. I think I will be more than happy with it. During my research, I also ran across people talking about the Foxwell NT510, and its bi-directional ability, to actuate modules and so on, and have even read it does adaptation.
I just got through building a 42RLE transmission in a 2004 dodge dakota, and noticed it shifted a bit harsh after getting it done, and soon found out, that it has "shift adaption". It learns CVI values according to how you drive, to provide the best shifts. When rebuilding the trans, you have to reset the learned values by doing a "quick learn", because it is used to the old trans with worn clutches and so on, and will not shift correctly when rebuilt new. So after learning this, I took it to the dealer, and had them do the quick learn on it, and sure enough, it shifted smooth like it was suppose to. I would like to be able to do this myself so I no longer have to take the customers car to the dealer.
So, I would like to know how much ability the Foxwell NT510 scanner has. Would it be able to perform that function and properly set the transmission adaption values back to default? Also, will the NT510 do things like "CKP Learn"(Crank Position Sensor) and Cam Sensor? Can it Program new Keys with chips? Can it assign new ECU's and things like that? Can it do TPMS and Battery Registration?
Sorry for all of the questions, I just want to see what it is capable of. I would probably buy the one with the GM software, and then add Chrysler and Ford software as well... and then maybe a couple more later on.
I know I'm gonna love the Autel MD802, but I would like to get as much advice and information as possible from those that have experience with the Foxwell NT510 as well.
Thank You!!
