I'm guessing these guys went out of business? I remember using one of their 16" Fast Framers when we built my Grandparents camp in the late 90's. Don't remember them being that bad of a tool. I just happened to think of it as I'm planning my build and tried to find one. Can't seem to locate one anywhere.

Anyone have/use or used to have one? What were your thoughts? Know where to find one?:dunno:

I don't care about hunting one down to buy but now that I've seen that I think I'll make one for myself. Thanks.

Might be good for an endless wall of just studs, but useless in the real world. Jacks and king studs, windows for headers all need to be laid out.

I keep a couple of 14.5" 2x4 scraps marked and painted for the same purpose. I guess I could attach an L bracket to each end for the same result.

I don't see how this would save time, in fact it seems like it would add hassle.

You would still have to mark the layout on the plates regardless.

Without it you're grabbing studs with one hand and holding the gun in the other. With it you'd be putting down and picking up the gun so you can align this thing every time.

No thanks

This tool may be decent for homeowner type diy jobs but not for real framing. When you frame a wall you stand the bottom and top plate on edge together. Then mark your layout on the top plate all the way down. Mark your edges of studs and any window door framing needed. Then using your framing square you transfer the line across both the top and bottom plate. Then spread your plates and fill in the studs. This would be a LOT faster then using the plastic jig above to layout the top plate and then again the bottom plate. When using a nail gun it would really slow you down. You would have to set the gun down so you can use one hand for the jig and one hand to place the stud. Then let go of the jig and pick up the gun. When filling in studs on plates that are already marked out you use one hand to place the studs and the other hand on the gun and never have to let go of the gun. I'm sure it has it's uses but I just don't see a need for one.

I also plan to use it to build a deck for spacing the joists. I was going to build the rim joists then screw a board to underside edge of rim joists and set the joists on it like a shelf and space them out with this tool then nail the hangers on. I never have good results when I prenail joist hangers on, they always are inconsistent heights no matter how carefully I try and do it. I think this tool will work good snapping it to the top of joists. I also ordered a tool made by Swanson called the wood magnet level. It grips onto 2x material so you don't have to hold a level or clamp one.

This comes years later but wondering if you found something that replaced the Framemaster? My brother has a frame master and now I want one. Probably end up making one.
