I haven't read all the replies. But I have put up a metric **** ton of smart siding.

You absolutely do not want to use a framing gun.
You want a decent siding gun, they are expensive do not buy a cheap one or you will spend more time dealing with it's ******** than actually installing the siding. We have put countless coils through our metabo, https://www.lowes.com/pd/Metabo-HPT...-15-Degree-Siding-Pneumatic-Nailer/1000691502
Although I'm fairly convinced that just like our metabo framer it is made by hitachi. I tried a couple years ago to cheap out on nailers we were using every single day and ended up with all hitachi/metabo nailers. They are spendy but the increased productivity covered the cost for us.

Hard to believe, but I think my Paslode is probably twenty or twenty five years old now. It nails osb, plywood, and smart side just fine. It’s jambed maybe three times in all those years, and was reloaded without issue.

I later picked up a Bostich sheathing stapler on close out from a Menards that was moving to a new store. It’s a little lighter than the Paslode, but not as versatile since it only shoots staples, but I have found a lot of uses for it over the years. Being lighter, I prefer it when on a ladder. I did replace the actuator, a $15 part maybe six years ago.

I bought one of those inexpensive (less than $100) Banks framing nailers from Harbor Freight, I am happy with it, I've used it a lot and I am happy with it.

The Makita framing nail gun has worked great for the siding. I know I will use it for other projects too so money well spent. I have 1 side of the storage shed completed.
