Ive got three walls done. If it wasnt dark out I'd take a picture, it really is looking great. Now for the part I really want to take my time with - framing the overhead doors. I'll have 1 16'X8' and 1 9'X8', Three questions. 1st - How many jack studs do I use on each side of the header? I remember reading take the number of studs missing and divide by 3 and round up which means I would have 4 on each side of the long door and 3 on the short one. Right? 2nd - These jack studs will go right over the anchor bolts. Should I just make 1 shorter to get the nut on the anchor? 3rd - Exaclty how high do i place the header?? Thanks in advance, you guys have been great help!

HEADERS REQUIRE 3" BEARING,DOUBLE JACKS MEET CODE TRIPLE IF YOU LIKE
IF YOU CAN, DOUBLE UP ON YOUR PLATES. DRILL A 1" HOLE AND CUT FLUSH ANY THREAD THAT STICKS UP.
HEADER HIGHT SHOULD BE AT 8' 2 1/2" O.F.F. THIS ALLOWES 2X JAMB, 1X TRIM AND DOOR WEATHER STRIP.
ENJOY YOUR NEW "HOME"

Thanks,

Do you mean 3-1/2" bearing jacks? I'm not sure what you mean by drill a 1" hole and cut flush any thread that sticks up. Do you mean just drill a hole and forget about the nut and washer? I have LVL's for the headers. Since I will have an attic loft do i need any more support than 3 jack studs?

I used a 4x6 with Simpson hardware. You can see the hold down on the right side of the jack stud. That hold down anchor bolt is 3' long....the hold down is attached to the stud with 7/8" bolts.....

Man those Simpson Strong Ties look beefy! My original plans called for those but now I just have anchor bolts in the block wall. Here is a pic of the garage so far.

You can use 2 or 3 jacks nailed to the king. 2x studs are 1 1/2" thick-two together = 3". That is all that is required to transfer load from a correctly sized header / girder. Triple 5.5" x 1.75" bolted together for the 16' door and 8' door.if you wanted to add a third jack, consider the 2x10 that will be used as garage door jamb.you will need to add 2x6 on flat, flush to the inside for the garage door track mounting flanges. Contact a local garage door supply/install for a free estimate, and they will provide a diagram of needed framing & blocking. The 1" hole referes to bolting 1st plate then adding a 2nd plate, burying bolt & nut in hole and nail in place
