Had a little time on my hands and built this during the summer.

Take one weed wacker:

And one garage sale special scooter ($5)

And too much time....

My kid was upset when I took the jump peg off of his bike for this project!

With me on it it goes ~ 23mph. The friction tape lasts about 3 hours but I am going to put a knurled roller on next.

Thats the stuff that builds memories, especially if the kids "helped"

It took about a week to build and my kids were in and out the whole time in between the welding. My kids were really proud when I told their friends and their friend's parents they assisted in the whole process. I know I will remember this build!

I found the can on eBay when I was looking for a flammable liquids cabinet. It is identical to the container they use for oily rags so that is what I use it for. Never had any thing go up in flames yet!

Very nice. You could have just bought one but your investment is less and way nicer than anything you could get from the store. You can't put a price on the memories you are building with your kids.

Just one side note, she should have a better helmet, or at least a better adjustment for the one she's wearing :) Sits too far back on her head, the whole front area is exposed, big clump of material in the back makes a bad leverage point on the neck against shoulders in a crash. Like I said before though, absolutely awesome family memories (just want to make sure they remain happy memories)

Is there a clutch at all or does it just want to go as soon as you start it??

I might have to try that with a lttle bicycle.

jmh21586 - there is a clutch that was part of the weed wacker. The clutch discs are visible in the picture of just the motor. I welded the peg to the housing and it drops over the clutch. It works pretty good and it keeps running when one stops, but with my weight 200# it's getting a bit weak. I have read that there is a clutch setup that has three discs instead of two. Maybe I just should not ride it :)

FNF - thanks for the helmet tip. She now has a motocross helmet that fits proper.

Arkangel - it goes about 23mph with me on it. Probably faster with the kids on it!

here is my aptly named SuiCycle
b1.jpg

powered by a 40ish cc chainsaw motor
front wheel drive (with 4 gears) and the standard 10 speed pedal set up

- was unfinished at the time of that photo - i added a chain guard and exhaust deflector for a bit of safety

Nice job. The grin on the kid's face says she isn't so upset anymore. :)
