A friend that I know had this ratchet and didn't like it. It had been given to him from an uncle or someone who didn't need it. It didn't ratchet at all so my friend said if I wanted it I could have it. When I opened it up and it appeared to be filled with wood glue:confused:. Anyway long story short, I cleaned and lubed it and it works like new. :)

Those were good ratchets; its a shame the currently shipping versions, are such lower quality then these older ones! :(

Those ratchets were actually pretty good ratchets. They are a thousand times better than the danaher made **** raised panels they have now.

I have several of those and they are much better than the new versions. Congrats.

When you see the -V- or =V= date code on Cman your getting a good tool. Many of those old ratchets have an oil hole in the head as well.

Thanks! I have one marked -v- which seems decent and one that is -vg- which is bound up. Guess I should warranty the last one because I think it is one of the bad ones any way.

I would dis-assemble and clean it. I too had warrantied several Cman ratchets over the years whenever something got funky with them. After finding GJ, I've disassembled, cleaned, and oiled many a ratchet back into smooth service.

I did them both. On the non-working one I think the ball bearing was just out of place. :)

Glad to hear it. I just cleaned an old 1/2" Snap-On 71M. The selector would jump into "neutral" and freewheel. I though for sure it needed a kit. I scraped out a varnish like build up on the inside, oiled it and now its my favorite ratchet.
