I was lucky to get this free scroll saw. It was obviously subjected to weather and rodents, but it still scrolled happily (is that what you call the up and down motion? Scrolling?). Anyway, I spent a few hours with it today:

View media item 44874A little compressed air removed the big stuff.

View media item 44875Hmmm? How to get the table off?

View media item 44876Oh yea, the big mallet. Pre-steel wool.

View media item 44877scrubbed, dried and ready for paint.

View media item 44878Why black? Why not, it was in the cabinet?

View media item 44879Ready for use. Now I need a project!

Nice find! and lookin good.

Food for thought....maybe the black paint won't give you a problem, but tables are always sanded smooth bare metal. This is for the workpiece to slide freely with out getting caught on the paint and also to keep the paint from marking said workpiece. But mess with it and see how you like it. Not like it's too late to sand it.

Cool refurb. Enjoy!

Yeah, I thought of that AFTER I painted. I will wax the heck out of it and hopefully won't have to sand it down. Thanks!

You may find the painted surface will have a bit too much friction to easily maneuver the work piece.

You can't beat Evaporust. That table will come out looking just as it did from the factory. It's amazing stuff and non-toxic. Then you can finish it off with some paste wax.

Happy Scrolling :)
