So, I get a call from a friend that a local auto-parts store has replaced all their metal shelving and the old stuff is out by the dumpster. I picked up 60-ft of shelving for my garage and 54-ft for a buddy. Decided to lag the verticals directly to the studs instead of messing around with the metal stands/supports etc. Got 2-sets installed with one more 4-ft set left to put up. I'll have to take it all down to sheet rock later, but at least I can get stuff off the floor for now.

I lag bolted 2x4's on my walls on every stud then placed the vertical brackets on the 2x4's.

Ray,

GREAT score!

May I make a suggestion? Since you haven't sheathed the studs with drywall or anything, that wall would look GREAT painted flat black behind the shelves. Just my $.02.

Here's where my years of retail come into, looks like lozier brand shelving ( my preferred brand, but I'm not a fan of the 4' shelves) they can take a beating, just don't stand on them. One of my good friend picked up 12' from his work, and I'm still mad at him
