Driving back from lunch a few minutes ago I spotted this sitting on the yellow line in the middle of the road. I sez to myself, "Self, that looks like a screwdriver. It might even be a Snap On screwdriver."

Sure enough, it's an orange #1 phillips, SGDP31IRBO. I don't know how long it was out there, but it got run over several times.

No, I'm not going to try to warranty it.

I'm going to sand down the rough bits and put it in my box. Tip could use some clean up too.

Meh, free is good.

I found a 8 gig ipod touch in the middle of the road the other day. I bought a charger off ebay and it works good. It pays to keep your eyes open.

you got ripped off!

nice find.

found a proto 1/2 breaker bar once, a shopvac w/ a cracked tank, craftsman jack stand, tons of levels and pliers, and a 8ft. ladder.

makes you wonder how stuff ends up in the road, other than just falling off the back of the work truck.

Maybe this thread should be expanded. Over the year's I've found:

A nice feeler gauge, a 12" Craftsman punch, a generic flat blade screwdriver, and the above referenced Snap On.

The most odd-ball find is TWO pair of Klein side cutters sitting on the phone junction box in my back yard - about a year apart! The tech left one pair one year and another pair the next. Same spot. Thank you very much. One's in the garage and other is in the basement!

I found a wallet on a keypad/cardreader box at a cardlock fuel station. (Of course I turned it in)

My son found a large pair of Chanelock waterpump pliers.

A 4 or 5 cell LED Maglight.

A girlfriend of mine as a birthday present one year, paid to have an icemaker installed in a fridge in the apartment I was renting (I made a comment one time about always having wanted an ice maker growing up). So she copied the model # of the fridge, then bought and paid for the local appliance repair company to come and install the kit.

Six months or so later, I'm looking for something in the freezer and I find a pair of Klein needlenosed pliers the installer had left there. Tried to return them, but the guy had quit by this time. Still have them to this day.

I think I bought one of my own wrenches that i lost a while back. I was working on my truck and the wrench (it was a 7/16 gearwrench) dropped somewhere in the engine bay and I forgot to retrieve it. Fast forward a few months later and a guy at work comes in and says he found a nice wrench out in the parking lot, down the way from where we work. It was the same one I was missing, might have been mine or just a coincidence, but I gave him $5 for it...

I found a dual 80 ratchet with extension and 10mm socket down the street the other day. I was pretty happy, but once I looked at it closer I realized it was MINE! :lol_hitti

I found a air "blow gun" (not an actual blow gun, but a long thing that blows compressed air, you know what I mean?) under the hood of a jetta I was working on. it was sitting up by the radiator core spport. How someone left a 3 ft silver tool under a hood without noticing is beyond me. Ive found a few other freebies including a 17mm snap-on ratcheting wrench, and a set of craftsman pliers, under the hoods of cars I was working on. Now I always check twice to make sure I don't leave any tools under there.

My dad got a flat tire in the middle of the night one time. Went and looked at the tire in the morning and found a 3/8'' snap on nut driver sticking out of it lol.... I guess it offset the price of the new tire he had to buy

Best find for me was a Snap-On 3/8" Torque Wrench laying in the middle of a very busy road. Must be i was the only one smart enough..or stupid enough..to jump out and snag it. Have also found a Snap-On 10mm wrench on top of a battery, of a car i brought in for service (i know..super unsafe but it was there), and a Matco Plastic Interior Pry tool INSIDE a dash behind a radio. Im thinking somebody dropped it down in the dash and figured itd be more of hassle getting it out then it was worth. Oh well...

My last find was after having a new windshield installed on my 4-Runner, found a brand new Snappy 90 degree cotter pin extractor/pick the large one. Then once after my sis had work done on her car, I was replacing a blown fuse and found a Snappy TML830 ratchet with a SK 10mm socket attached to it. One day after work I was driving to Lowes to replace my busted hammer and in the middle of the road 2 blocks from Lowes, I found a Snappy dead blow ball peen hammer. I work on new Mack trucks so every now and then I find tools, that the Mack techs leave behind. An 3/8" IR air ratchet, an IR right angle die grinder, misc wrenches and a cell phone. I returned the cell.

While breaking down a tire for a tire repair, i found a 10mm wrench inside the tire. It had my initials on it. I let a lube guy borrow it to install a battery and never got it back. He swore he gave it back to me lol. At least i got it back.

Only thing around here to find in the roads are bums.

I found a dead squirrel once in the middle of the road. Didn't really hold its value quite like a snap on screw driver would though.

A 24" Snappy 3/8 extension. A hydraulic press (and a good deal more force than I thought would be necessary) brought it back to usability from the banana curve it had acquired. Feel sorry for whatever hit it.

I found a 24" prybar under a hood once. Not sure how that was overlooked. It was made in Taiwan though so maybe it was left on purpose!
