Free standing gas heater

Good morning,

I‘m thinking of getting a free standing propane stove/heater. For context, I’ve got a Drolet wood stove in the lower floor/basement of my cabin. Lot’s of thermal mass. From memory, it’s a Drolet 1500 escape. Not a big stove. I’m in Texas so the heating needs are not very frequent or intense. But it does get into the teens for a bit.

It has a hard time heating up the place. Over the course of a few days, it does ok but not great. A bigger stove may be in my future.

Alternatively, I’m thinking a free-standing propane fireplace on the second floor, vented through the wall, would be a nice addition. She would like the aesthetics of it and it would be more immediately deployable as a heat source.

I did a lot of research on the Drolet and I’m pretty happy with it other than my choice of size. I’ll note that I’m off grid and the only electricity is solar/battery.

Is this a good plan? And would a wall mount propane heater be a better idea? Any brands I should be looking at?

How big is the place?

It’s 24’x24‘. And has three levels. A concrete walled garage, a second floor, and a loft. About 30’ high in total. Plan includes a large ceiling fan to circulate the heat.

As it sits now, the wood stove has a hard time warming the garage even when the top access is closed off.

Some elderly neighbors have a little propane Vermont castings stove in their dining room. They have an old house (1918) that is hard to heat when it gets in the teens or below and the wind is blowing.

It’s quite pleasant to have meals or play euchre with them in there and they don’t have to haul wood
