I was asking my dad for some spare metric wrenches for christmas (hoping for some snappy's), but he told me he didn't have some spares and bought me a set of crafty raised panel sae and metric. I didn't have the heart to tell him I had a set of each and maybe more, but thanked him, and he also through in this other stuff, what do you think for free? A kantwist and a bag of apex bits, along with these wrenches and screwdrivers.

what 20-100 said. sell the duplicates (the ones you already had) and keep the ones pops gave ya. they might "appear" to be the same wrenches, but the ones from dad are better!

That's nice of your dad to give you some decent tools.

My dad has never had a complete set of decent tools. He's retired from farming now and it doesn't really matter any more, he just needs the occasional pliers, screwdriver, or hammer. You never really did maintenance on equipment (other than greasing joints or replacing cutter bar blades), just fixed it when it broke. It was really frustrating growing up on a farm and having to dig through multiple tractor tool boxes or the back of a truck with 6" of hay or under the seat for a 5/8 wrench or a slotted screwdriver with a decent tip.

Hi, Those are wonderful gifts from your Father; I lost both my parents many years ago Mom died on Dec. 20th and Dad died on Dec.25th. I have a few tools that my Father left me that I treasure everyday!

Give your Dad a special thanks...

I had the reciept, but I am going to keep the wrenches, may be worth more than he paid when in a few months all crafty stuff is made overseas, :lol_hitti

48548, why don't you keep the tools and start a small hand held toolbox for each of your vehicles? I have a 19" plastic Walmart box in each of my vehicles, because I own other properties 45 minutes to an hour and a half from my home, and I never know what vehicle I am going to be driving. If one of my family has a problem on the road, I can help them without a lot of back and forth for tools.

My Dad died last January, and I have his workbench, bandsaw, drillpress and countless other tools. Mom said that "he'd want you to have them". (My Brother surely could care less)

They all mean alot to me as I too remember things we did together with those tools. But moreover, they're a link to someone that's gone and a reminder of him. I'm proud to have them.

Hope I'm not hijacking the thread, but speaking of Dads and tools.....
My Dad was a cabinetmaker and trim carpenter, and died in '91. I inherited some of his tools, and bought out my sisters and mother for the rest. I have his 4 foot wood and brass bound level with his initials carved into it. My oldest son is not into this type of thing, but his younger brother (26) is, and is very sentimental about my Dad. Each year at this time, I give him a tool or other possession that belonged to his Grandad. My oldest son gets a piece of his military items. It has become a Christmas tradition, and reconnects us all.

The tools my dad left behind when he walked out, i still use. They dont really mean anything to me other then they are there. I trashed all the junk that was in his old toolbox (literally junk) and kept what was decent. Which was a matco sae impact set, and some old wrenches made in like spain or somthing. Thats about it. Along with and old waterloo industries box that my mom bought for him around 30 years ago, and a old snap on carry on box that he got when he was in college. So if you guys had a good relationship with your father, and have many memories with tools, cherish them forever.
