I picked up a new chest freezer today that I plan to keep in a single car attached garage that is just used for storage. The freezer is a little bigger than I planned on getting, but I got a smoking deal on it that I couldn't pass up.
Due to the size of it, I'm going to have to keep it against a side wall that doesn't have an outlet. The garage only has 2 outlets, one against the back wall and one on the roof (same circuit).
I'm using a contractor grade 12g 15ft extension cord plugged into the back outlet to power the freezer. There is a garage door opener plugged into the roof. These are the only things that are used in the plugs. There is also a single incandesant blub light ran off a switch on the same circuit. These are the only things that will be used with the plugs and circuit since this garage is just used for storage and I do all my work in a seperate (attached) 3 car garage that is ran off different circuits.
My question is, Am I ok with the extension cord with the freezer?, or are there any other options? I know the best answer would be to put a dedicated circuit in, but the main box is on the other side of the house.
It seems to be working fine and not tripping anything as it is and the cord doesn't seem to be getting warm.
Sorry for the long post, thanks for the help.
