I decided my floor area was too much for me to tackle given all the other things i have going on. (about 4600 sq ft).

i hired a very professional company and they did an outstanding job.

diamondground with 3 grits the floor, custom colored epoxy primer, custom colored urethane coat with chips that my wife and i spent days experimenting with different colors and percentages. (my guy gave us bags of sample chips for us to experiment with our own mix with). after we got the right mix he brought us the chips in 10lb bags and we mixed our own batch up in a 55 gal barrel.

then after the chips (one mix for the main garage floor and another different one for the mancave), a coat of clear urethane after he scraped and cleaned the floor.

now it is setting for a few days before i go whole hog putting the shop together.

the airline system is the 1" rapidair aluminum piping. i have it 90 percent installed and need to finish it next week. i have a 20cfm horizontal champion compressor with refridgerated air dryer, but have not hooked it up.

i went with the prevost safety couplings which are really cool.

now that the floor is done i am working on putting all the remaining things in.

i keep my 45' Newell Coach on one side. and there is another bay that will hold another one, then my work area and a mancave with kitchen, bath and TV room

been working on it for 2 years.

That looks amazing!!!!!!
If you were doing 2000 sq ft would you have done it yourself? If so, what products would you have used? I'm getting ready to put up a fresh 2000 sq ft building to add to my shop and I'm considering epoxying the floor. Just don't know if its in my budget, but now is the time to do it. Any input???

if i was to have done it myself, i would have used one of the vendors here on the forum. i talked to a couple of them and they were very helpful. the only epoxy i used was the base coat. the rest was the aliphatic (sp) 2 part solvent based urethane.

for me, i have been doing so much of the work myself on my garage that it becomes a tradeoff of time and money. and there are always tricks a professional has. having watched him, i could do it myself easily, but i didnt have the time or the risk to goof up such a big floor. so i chickened out and paid someone.

the key to me was the humongo grinder he had along with a huge hepavacuum. there was ZERO dust from him grinding. and he got up something like 4 or 6 5 gallon pails fo concrete grinding dust. that was not a machine you rent at home depot.

I agree with the grinding Tom. I watched the polishers at my day job do 15,000+ sq ft with those big diamond impregnated grinders and the filtering units that tag along behind them. Got to have the right tool for those king of jobs. I started a thread about my shop floor to try and gather info.

Thanks
Brandon
