Anyone ever have this happen? Used it on a tough bolt/nut and the friction ring broke off. Returned the tool to homedepot and of course they are out of stock on this model so have to wait for an in stock alert.

maybe the nut was too rusty for the compact fuel?

That's pretty common if you use chrome sockets a lot on your impact. The hog ring gets damaged by the detent ball pockets on the drive end of a chrome socket. Impact sockets don't have these pockets on the drive end

You were using impact sockets......weren't you.......you can tell us the truth. :)

No i had to use a chrome socket  because I was in a hurry and didnt have the correct impact size. Im an idiot and i feel bad. Thought the tool was fubared so i returned it. Lesson learned.

Chrome on an impact is a sure way of shortening the life of an impact.

The local Napa used to keep them loose behind the counter. They didn't even charge to put them on. I guess it probably saved them a lot of grief with returns. Mine wasn't even a Napa impact and they gave me one.

Lol not a big deal, live and learn. Even with normal use and impact sockets those clips wear out eventually. Like others have mentioned I keep clips and o-rings from Just Clips in all three drive sizes at work. Carry on.

I did the same with a Milwaukee impact using a Milwaukee branded adapter that was specified for impact use ... but it had the detents like a chrome socket ... go figure. I ordered the just clips kit and fixed it in a jiffy.
