Friends (contacts and friends feature)

Several members have kindly invited me to be listed as a friend using the new contacts and friends feature under the Community heading. Other than my obligation to help Uncle Buck move his thirty year collection of Popular Mechanics back issues out of his attic the next time he moves, what does the friends list mean? Is there a practical use, or is it just a way to publicly show your kinship for another member?

You can see which of your buddies are online easier.

Click 'Quick Links' then click on 'Open Contacts Popup'

You will see all of your friends and if they are online.

Additionally, you can click on the box next to their names to make it easier to send a Private Message

Also, you can send a Private message to multiple people by clicking the box next to their name!
