Found an outdoor Frigidaire Minisplit unit at my local habitat 4 humanity.

Model # FFHP183CS2 - 18K Btu Cooling Capacity
Includes the 25' lineset.
Price $275

This would be used to condition an 800sqft space on the second floor of my "Barndominium".

I would still have to buy the indoor unit and condensate drain etc.....

Assuming everything works as it should. Is this worth picking up and piecing a system together? Or should I wait and save up a little more change and get a Mr. Cool DIY system?

Most failures of mini splits is due to improper installation, now knowing the history of the unit I would not touch it with a ten foot pole!

Only my opinion and worth what you are paying for it.

By the time you buy the indoor unit and all the other items you can buy a Pioneer 18k unit and have a warranty. If it was the whole unit for $275 I might bite but I agree you might be buying someones failed burned out warranty replacement

The indoor unit looks to be FFHP183WS2, so figure another $450 or so.
it looks to me like a Gree rebadge unit.

but do realize you need a few hundred more in tools to make this a "DIY" project.

I didn't realize you could get a brand new Pioneer system for $788 from HighSeer.com

While I think this system may be slightly better quality and higher SEER, I think I will pass and purchase a complete system when I'm ready to do the install.

I purchased a 2 ton conventional Goodman HVAC system from Habitat and it has worked out great. (So Far)..... Paid $450 so I try to constantly watch their inventory.

I have been to Parker-Davis (HighSEER) which is in Doral, metro Miami FL to do business. They are very helpful. I bought a Pioneer mini-split I'm getting ready to install. My HVAC-masters license-holding friend got the unit for me, and he'll be installing it.

I don't think buying a used system is a good idea unless you are a HVAC person, or you see the unit working before it's removed from service. I passed on a couple of deals before I went to Parker Davis-HighSEER to buy what I did. My friend who has been in the business for 40 years took a look at the unit after we got it to my home, and he said it looks well-built. Nearly-all his work is residential, new installs and change-outs. Anyway, I believe you will be happier with a new warrantied unit.
