Wheels acquired. Tires are junk, but I don't care. Wanted the wheels....not bad at all for just $250:

Couple of small updates. Finally got around to installing the RedLine Tuning QuickLIFT PLUS Hood Shocks. Blows my mind that here in 2023, the Civic still has an old school hood prop. Alas.

And the latest purchase for the Si....but I need some warmer weather so I can wash the car before installing:

As for the M3. I've been wavering on upgrading the exhaust tips. I've always preferred the look of a double-walled tip, so I bought these "Eurostyle" tips from a British fellow who makes them and sells them a few times a year. Luckily, I was able to get one of his last sets from his latest set:

52674240352_89a80c0c1f_c.jpg

Once the car is out of hibernation, I'll have my old shop neighbor weld them onto the Megan exhaust currently on the car and while it's up on the lift, I'll see if he and I can mess around with fitment of the muffler. It's always been just a hair off, which is what you get when you opt for a "cheap" exhaust. That said, I've always loved the sound of it and have received many compliments on it, so why mess with it?!

Lastly, I've been planting and watering the "4 post lift" seed in my wife's ear for a while. Well, my true goal is for a 3rd car addition to our garage, but that's likely not happening for a few years. So until then, I'd love a 4 post lift so I can have the daily in the garage during the winter time. Yes, it will **** to lose some of my working space in the garage, but I think the Pros far outweigh the Cons. And we got some good news today in regards to her raise and bonus, so I'm really hoping we can make this happen at the end of summer/beginning of fall. Cheers!

Thank you! Once the lift is ordered, that will be the first thing I'll do (wall mount/jack shaft opener).
Those damn near look like my Yeti Tumbler I am drinking out of lol. Those will look great on there.
Ha!! Oddly enough, someone commented on my Instagram post earlier today saying the exact same thing. Go figure!

Catching up on your posts from last month, selling your business had to be a painful decision but hopefully that helps improve family life.

I started listening to Everyday Driver a couple of years ago and have slowly been catching up on past episodes. I was listening this morning and they are describing a BMW enthusiast with a dry ice business. That sounded familiar from somewhere else and then I remembered this thread. The Civic Si seems like a great choice for your situation. While I love my BMW’s, you already have one of the best ones ever made so the Civic should give you a completely different experience.

The 4-post lift will be a big upgrade to the garage. You’re probably already planning to get drip trays since you are going to be storing a car under it. However, you can spend less by getting replacement pans for a dog crate and they work just as well. I bought 5 of these for $120 instead of paying $90 for 2 official drip trays.

Yessir, it has. And my heart just wasn't into the dry ice thing. I think at the end of the day, I liked the "idea" of owning my own business more than the reality of it. At least when it comes to dry ice. Maybe there will be something else that captures my eye down the road, but for now, working from home and being available is much more important to me. Appreciate the kind words!

Great podcast...probably my favorite one! I listen to The Smoking Tire, too, but Matt irks me from time to time. Oh well, he has the last laugh because I still listen! :ROFLMAO:

As for my specific episode, they got some of the details wrong, but in their defense, my email to them was LONG. I plan on sending a follow up in a month or so to inform them that I got the Civic Si and to let them know my thoughts on it. It's a great car, but I can see myself getting bored with it in 2-3 years. At that point, my boys might be old enough to warrant a 2-door daily driver (M2 CS, perhaps), or maybe a newer M3. We shall see!

I definitely was planning on drip pans and so I love the idea of the dog crate pans...appreciate you sharing that!

It's funny that you say this because they talked about this car only being around for a couple of years. Send them a follow-up, I really enjoy hearing those especially when people double their budgets.

OK, next purchase for the M3 arrived last week from IND-Distribution. I usually buy direct from Karbonius, but once I saw IND had a few in stock, figured I'd order from them to cut down on turnaround time. Even though I don't have the CSL style front bumper, I really think this will help finish off the look of the Karbonius intake:

Hurt my back last week so I've been unable to really do much beyond walking, but really hoping to get this installed next week (we're away this weekend). Will obviously take lots of photos during and after the install.

That said, I did order something else direct from Karbonius....stay tuned!! 👀

Finally had some time to install the Karbonius Snorkel and replace the Throttle Position Sensor. Snorkel was a snug fit, but I made it work. Hopefully just another week or 2 (and a bit more rain) until I can start driving this thing again. Need any remnants of salt off the roads first!

Found my next bit of garage decor randomly on eBay last week. For the last 6 months or so, I had been sporadically checking the interwebz for a specific E46 M3 poster that I had on my college dorm room wall back in the early 2000's. Until last week, I had come up empty, but then I found a guy selling one in what appeared to be pretty damn good shape, considering the age, and for a very reasonable price ($28.03 shipped). Picked up the appropriately sized poster frame from Michael's and, voila!:

52760422715_24647a7bd5_c.jpg

52763479613_265f015ee0_c.jpg

Thinking this is a good spot to hang it:

52767420507_d4741411f5_c.jpg

On the house front, my wife has been wanting to redo our laundry room for some time. So with her share of "play money" from her annual bonus, I strongly suggested to her to just get it done. We ended up having the same company who finished our basement come and take on this much smaller scoped project. Here are some before photos, as my wife is still putting some of the finishing touches on the room before I share those:

52768275244_6a8f6a3ea1_c.jpg

52768274804_566ce782a2_z.jpg

And for those fans of F1 (or any racing, really), my 7 year old happened to lay on the couch and watch the Saudi Arabian F1 race I had playing on TV, unprompted. Holy proud dad moment!! After a few minutes, I decided to join him:

52758189914_bd6db772dd_c.jpg

Circling back to the M3, the latest package from Karbonius arrived (on my birthday, to boot). More on that soon.

52762950279_f3b6aca544_z.jpg

52762950284_a104fe01db_z.jpg

And since the weather was so nice on my birthday, I decided to take the family to our favorite ice cream spot in the M3, it's maiden voyage for 2023. Cue the impromptu photo shoot:

52763479973_e6c12f38da_c.jpg

And to wrap up recent events, I finally installed the front lip I've had laying around since February on the Civic. Slightly peeved that the paint match isn't 100%, considering it's a brand new car so paint hasn't faded at all, but for the price I paid, I'm happy with the quality and fitment of the lip. The color looks more off in person than in photos.

Let me pick your collective brains. As you can see here, the top spindle on my main staircase is broken. My youngest broke it a few years ago and over that time, I've tried hot glue and epoxy, and while they both work for a bit, they can't compete with the strength of a 5 year old who forgets to not yank on it when going up or down the stairs.

Anyone have any more permanent solutions for this? As you can see, it doesn't actually go into the bannister handle (I don't know the proper lingo, so bear with me) like the other spindles do, it just sits flat against it. Should I try to drive a long, thin nail up through the spindle and into the bannister handle at an angle? Or are there any other tricks that you may have come across?

Thanks in advance and cheers!

Shaun, I would drill an angled hole through the spindle and then use a trim screw to attach it to the banister railing. A trim screw has a real small head like this:
Trim Screw.jpg
You can find them at hardware and big box stores or have Amazon deliver a small pack of them.
I like the more expensive stainless trim screws but with the banister being indoors there isn't much chance of rust stains.

Bob’s trim screw solution is what I’d try. Suggest you also scuff up the banister and the end of the baluster (spindle) with sandpaper and then use good wood glue (I like Titebond III) to give some more support.

Of course, you could also consider some behavior modification measures for youngsters, like barbed wire or pigeon spikes?

I had this issue before and I took a forstner bit and opened up the hole on the underside of the bannister so the spindle could be recessed and glued again. Since the spindle wasn't anything special, I just replaced with a new one and repainted to match the others. It took me like 3 trips to the shop to get the measurement right so it fit nice and tight 🤦‍♂️ but it hasn't been a problem since. Not sure if that is even an option for you on that angle (mine was on a flat railing).

Now I have no idea if that is the "right" way or not but it worked and is barely noticeable from the others. Even though I used the same paint as before, it is a little brighter but I kind of expected that to happen.

I think I am going to try this very thing, thank you, Bob!! Just ordered off Amazon.

I may also do that!

As for the behavior modifications, I like where your head is at! :ROFLMAO:

That might be the next step if the trim screw/wood glue solutions don't work. I appreciate the input!

Hurt my back yet again a few weeks ago, but it's finally starting to feel better, so my buddy Chris (who owns the blue E93 M3 parked next to me) and I decided to check out the Woodward Motorsports C&C this past Saturday. We were early, so prime parking was in order:

Dropped off the M3 Monday morning at the body shop for painting/installation of the Karbonius CSL-style trunk...so pumped to see how this comes out!

And until she returns home, the Si gets some indoor parking:

Sorry for the delay! Wife and I left for Aruba right after picking the car up from the body shop and just got back this past Friday. Busy, busy lately.

That said, here are the photos:

I had told the body shop to not wash the car, which they abided by, but unfortunately, the car being so dirty when I picked it up prevented me from seeing 2 imperfections in the paint. I don't have photos of both, but this appears to be some leftover wet sanding marks:

52909539507_405746bceb_c.jpg

Not going to mount the IND gloss black ///M3 badge until after I swing by the body shop (hopefully this Friday) to get their input on the 2 imperfections in case more body/paint work is needed. But the BMW roundel is now on.

Paint match is really close. Close enough to not require blending, at least in my opinion. Some trimming on the interior of the trunk was required for the inner taillights to sit flush and for the rear bulb housings to fit properly. All in all, very happy with the purchase and looking forward to getting it all buttoned up with the ///M3 badge and having this project finally be done.

And now that my back is starting to feel better, I was able to put together the gazebo that had been sitting in my garage for over a month. Got it all done in one weekend, with some help from my wife and my 7 year old! You can see a good chunks of the MANY parts in the photo from my previous post.

I was going to ask what you were building when I saw the previous post. Now I know. Car is looking great!!
Thanks, man! Very happy with where she's at.

And yeah, now we can actually use the deck. Had little to no shade prior. We were out there all day on Monday and have had dinner on the deck a few nights this week. Looking forward to a cigar out there this weekend!

Small house project update. Now that my mobility continues to increase, I'm finally getting around to a bunch of projects I had piling up due to my back injury. Needing more storage in the main floor bathroom, we swapped out the contractor grade pedestal sink for a vanity:

Next up is probably clearing out the path into the woods behind my house so I can drive my tractor to my dumping area, rather than carry bags/barrels, as I have been doing.

Cheers!

Foundation cracks from settling have stopped? The back deck looks great.
Appears that way. My luck, I'll have issues 10-15 years down the road, but for now, all seems copacetic.

And thanks! Weather has sucked lately but we try and get out there as much as we can. Hung some lights under the gazebo roof over the weekend so we can start entertaining out there after the kiddos are in bed.

Haven't touched the path in the woods, yet, but possibly this week. Baseball ends for both boys on Saturday so I'll have a bit more free time moving forward (until soccer starts at the end of the summer).

What's new with you? Any new vehicles?

Got some help from a good buddy of mine who was able to wire the new license plate lights for me, and I installed the trunk roundel and IND-Distribution gloss black ///M3 badge. This project is finally complete!

Next up is removing the single-walled exhaust tips and having my buddy https://www.instagram.com/builtbyfurches/ weld on the Eurostyle tips I had picked up over the winter.

Tips still not on the M3...my buddy, who is a recent below the knee amputee, has had a tough time getting back into his regular flow at work. He's self-employed so nobody else to rely on, so between ill-fitting prosthetics and others that continually break on him based on how hard he pushes himself, he's a bit behind. So until he has free time and is physically able to, that will remain back-burnered.

Not much else going on. Weather has been a bit better, so I'm still trying to get the M3 out as much as possible, but no way in hell will I match the nearly 3k miles I put on it last summer. I'll be lucky if I do 1k miles...though, I can realistically drive it into November, since we haven't been seeing snow until after December these past few years.

Back in June, I removed the wiper arms, as they were in need of some sprucing up. I sanded them down and spray painted them with multiple coats of Semi-Flat Black Spray Paint. Not perfect (I **** at painting), but much better than before.

Some before shots:

After (I also treated the faded windshield cowl with Solution Finish, and it looks brand new again):

As my back continues to improve little by little, I am able to catch up on more and more house/yard projects. This latest one was addressing the corner boards on my shed, as I get a little too close and trigger happy with my weedwacker. Instead of replacing the entire board, I just cut 2 sections off a new one to cover up the damaged areas:

Hit up the recent "M Town" event at BMW of Warwick and got to drive these 2 beasts:

Say what you will about the grilles (for the record, they've grown on me and I'd daily the ever living **** out of this car!!), but this thing is a rocket ship. And that interior is incredible!

She certainly boogies for a heavy-*** vehicle (6063lbs)...that's what 644hp and 590 lb-ft of torque will do.

Took this shot after a recent fill up of the M3:

Attended the Boston Chapter BMW CCA Concours at Prowse Farm in Canton,MA a few weeks back. My buddy Larry, who does a bunch of the photography work for our chapter and the local Porsche chapter took these shots of my car (pardon the excessive brake dust):

My little man:

53097773083_7553ac3518_b.jpg

And I spent all of last weekend really dialing in the Si. My first experience ever with coatings and man oh man it went amazingly well. I'll never go back to wax/sealant for my personal vehicles:

Pictures don't do it justice, but the car came out unbelievably amazing:

As I'm still dealing with some back discomfort (had a recent MRI that showed 2 herniated discs....), I couldn't find it in myself to do the 2nd coat of EXO on top of the CSL, so one coat of each was enough. I wanted the Civic to be the guinea pig for my first attempt at ceramic coating and I found the EXO and CSL very easy to work with and very forgiving.

I'll be doing my wife's X5 before the winter because that's severely neglected so a coating would make a world of difference. And then the M3 either before I store it for winter, or early Spring before it sees the road. Depends on how my back feels as I weigh the option of surgery or not.

And lastly, me and some buddies ran a little convoy down to Ft. Adams in Newport,RI (amazing spot on the water) for another Audrain Cars & Coffee. 2 M3's, 2 Mitsu Evo's, and 2 MB's, though I took next to no photos aside from these terrible shots:

Oh and remember how I spent all last weekend dialing in the Si, well this happened on my way home from picking up my parents at Logan Airport after their return home from a vacation in Portugal (aka the mother land, aka the old country):

Man I don't know what it is about Honda and their windshields, but I went through 3 on my 2018 Accord Sport in the roughly 2 years I had it, and will now need my first replacement on the Civic after 5000 miles. Always an "errand" or something to fix when you're an adult, huh?!

I think that about catches up on my boring goings-on.

Cheers!

FYI, to anyone interested and local to me, I'm selling a Kranzle K1122TST pressure washer (upgraded with Mosmatic components) and a CR Spotless Deionization Rolling System. Check out my FS thread:

Around the middle of October, I dropped my car off at my buddy's (https://www.instagram.com/builtbyfurches) shop for some exhaust work. Since meeting him shortly after opening my now closed dry ice cleaning shop, we had talked about him fabricating me a custom rear section. And that finally happened:

This thing is an absolute work of art, as evidenced by the photos. Brandon ended up using a ton of material to get it as picture perfect as he could, and I could not be happier. ***** I have to wait until Spring for windows down driving to hear this exhaust sing again, but hey, living in New England ***** sometimes!

And that takes us up to this past Saturday. Going to hopefully wash the car this afternoon, then get the battery tender and car cover on it and stored away in the garage for winter. We'll see if my back is ready for an oil change, though, I might just wait a bit longer to give it more time.

Cheers!
