Thanks, man! As good as she looks now, it's only going to get better as I address some of the minor interior and exterior imperfections. Slow and steady wins the race, right?!

1) I installed Homelink. This was an available option at the time, so my M3 was pre-wired for it and there is a pre-existing blank spot to add the actual Homelink module:

Looks good. I'm so afraid of scraping the **** out of a lip. I destroyed the felt under tray, and finally just replaced it with an aluminum under tray last weekend. Knowing your OCD nature, how are you going to react when it starts getting rock chips? You have any protective film on it?

Thanks! I had a lip on my E90, which was also lowered, so I'm pretty comfortable driving with a front lip at this point. That said, no PPF on the lip but that's not a bad idea! I might look into that while the car is away for the winter.

As for scraping the underside of it, IND-distribution does sell this which has piqued my interest. We'll see what I end up doing.

Nothing major to report. My backyard looks great:

As for the M3, I swapped out the chrome ///M3 badge for an IND Industries gloss black version:

I won the championship in one of my fantasy baseball leagues, so I used the winnings (my play money) to purchase a 2x2 weave carbon fiber rear diffuser:

We had some nice weather early last week, so I found a quiet road nearby with some nice fall colors and had myself a little photo session, courtesy of my new iPhone 11 Pro Max (this thing takes ridiculous pictures):

The detached garage really boils down to one thing: whether or not we have the space for it in the area I'm envisioning building it. My side yard has some strange property line quirks and we have a 10 ft easement (is that the term for where you have to be so many feet away from a property line when building or putting up a fence?) in my town, so it might be tough.

Unless I go for an oversized single garage with tall ceilings for a 4 post lift. So I could stick 2 (maybe more if I can build a single, but two cars deep) in this theoretical garage and still park my daily and the wife's Jeep in our attached garage. I need to get out there and measure sometime this weekend once this "Nor'easter" passes.

Thanks, Nick! She's really coming along and getting closer to what I envisioned when buying it. Still a ways to go, though. As for the black edged roundels, I draw a line there. As much as I think they look cool, it's almost blasphemous to mess with the BMW roundel. The badges/emblems, well that's a different story!

That wagon is coming along nicely! Giving me second thoughts on my next daily. But each time I see or read about the new M340i, I keep drooling at the thought of a CPO example in my driveway in about 15 or 16 months, after some depreciation takes place!

Ha, I almost forgot. My wife picked these up on Amazon a few weeks back. They're magnets that, from the street and most of the driveway, give the appearance of windows. Up close, within a few feet, you can clearly tell they're magnets, but they serve their purpose:

The developer cheaped out and went windowless on the majority of houses in our neighborhood, which annoys me. Saving pennies wherever they can.

The guy that started Radwood said on facebook they arent going to do another one in Atlanta because no one showed up, but it was in August inside Road Atlanta during another event. Anyway, I digress and your photos look awesome.

I assume not many of you are following along with my M3Post "build" thread (if you are, sorry for the double posting), so here's my last entry from there:

Since I already had the rear seats out, I figured I would take this opportunity to finish vinyl wrapping the interior trim that the previous owner hadn't gotten around to. That being just the two rear armrests. As I got into it the other night removing these bits, I realized that there wasn't much more I needed to remove in order to refinish the rear deck. So might as well take care of that, too.

So out came the very faded rear deck. Here are some photos detailing just how much you really have to remove to even access it:

After the first light coat of Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric Paint - Flat Black:

After the 3rd coat, this one, fairly heavy:

And the finished product (I used the entire can...2 light coats, then about 4 or 5 heavy coats):

I am very happy with how this turned out. That faded deck had really been eating away at me, so I'm looking forward to everything going back together and looking new again.


I haven't forgotten about the vinyl wrapping. I ran out the other night, mainly because it was my first ever time vinyl wrapping. The previous owner had put the rest of the vinyl wrap that he hadn't used in the trunk of the car prior to shipping it, though there wasn't a ton. Those of you who have done it before know there's definitely a learning curve, so I had to order more and it only came in yesterday, but I am hoping to get back to it tonight or tomorrow. I'll probably start buttoning the rear of the car back up tonight, as well.

Rear window seals are up next. I've had the parts since about March, but have been putting it off long enough. Hopefully this weekend!

The package tray looks great, I did the same on my e36. Be careful when you are cleaning the rear window or running a vacuum. I vac'd mine and put lines in it so I need to pull it and redo it.

OK, noted. Thanks for the warning! My goal is to NEVER have to pull this out again. Granted, the next time would be much quicker than it was this first time, but it's still pretty damn involved. Lots of parts need to be removed.

OK so some bad news. I heard back from one contractor. Based on the as built, he informed me that I won't be able to fit a detached garage in my backyard. However, it's not all bad news. He did say that I would be able to add a 3rd stall onto the existing garage, after he initially didn't think it would fit.

We are waiting to hear back on some prices to figure out if it's even feasible anytime soon. I'm going to guess it'll be out of our price range, for the time being, and will probably be something we look to do in the next 3-4 years. Regardless, it's exciting because I'll hopefully one day be able to store my daily, my M3 and my wife's daily in the garage. And, possibly expand my BMW collection with an E30 or E28 and get both BMW's in one stall via a 4 post lift. #squadgoals

We'd like to finish our basement first and are thinking of maybe starting this in the Spring.

Thanks, Roboto! I saw a bunch of other guys have really good luck with this specific paint, including one guy who after 6 years, noticed no fading, so I figured why the hell not?!

Yeah, my ceilings are 12' high, so plenty of room, for sure. I'd have to change out the opener and garage door brackets for a high rise. I think if the right vehicle came up for sale and I was serious about it, I'd probably entertain getting a lift to be able to store it. Not a bad idea, as I had all but decided on getting a lift only after the addition was built. Stop giving me bad (great!) ideas!

Busy couple of days in the garage for me, finishing up the rear deck, wrapping the rear armrests and replacing the rear window seals. I took a personal day on Friday to get more time to finish everything up.
I started buttoning the interior back up at 9am and didn't finish the window seals until 4:45pm.

Very happy to no longer be seeing dry, cracked seals and kudos to the DIY threads on the window seal job.
Like many others, I went with the 3M 08650 EPDM HOLLOW RUBBER WEATHERSTRIP 7/8" THICK x 3/4" WIDE x 8':

To help with the kinking around the hofmeister kink, I used some 3/8 vinyl tubing that I picked up from Home Depot that I then inserted into the seal.

Additionally, I had to replace the driver-side lower gasket (the seal below the rear window, part # 51368194741).

Any of you proficient with Photoshop (or similar)? Even though we're probably 2ish years away from realistically entertaining a 3rd stall addition for the garage, it's never too early to come up with potential designs. And since I'm a very visual person and have trouble seeing things "in my head", I reached out to the folks on the Obsessed Garage Facebook group to see if someone could quickly edit a photo of mine to add a 3rd stall. It only took about 10 minutes until someone reached out with a rough 5 minute photoshop job for me.

Clearly, this won't work with the long, unbroken straight lines (my wife already said so!). I always envisioned some dormers and stepping the gable down at the 3rd stall to break things up and some character and shape to things.



Again, photoshop is WAY above my capabilities, so I took that photoshopped image and using Windows Paint 3D (yes, I know...), came up with the following:

Now, if anyone on here has the desire to take the original photoshopped image and add on these things I hacked into my image, I obviously wouldn't say no! (hint hint). But even with the rough job I did, it really helps to visualize how nice this garage overhaul could look. Complete with a section of vinvl fence to hide my recycling and trash/yard waste barrels.

Thoughts? Feedback? I dig it!

Also, one thing to note, is we wouldn't want the driveway as wide as it appears. We would swoop the existing driveway outward to accommodate the new stall, but I wouldn't want the mouth of the driveway (where it meets the street) to be any wider, if we can help it.
