To chime in to this convo, i agree with all that mention his places all look the same. But i think to be fair that's exactly what his true market wants. They simply want his exact look; not a traditional designer role where its inspired by the actual owner of the home and created based off that. I think for the most part this community enjoys hearing and seeing ideas and then incorporating them into their own unique interpretation. My two cents :)

My thoughts exactly, but you said it much more eloquently than I could have. Thanks, Dubber!

Sorry didn't mean to start a thread jack. I enjoy Matt's videos, they are great to have on in the garage or while on the treadmill at gym. I like the design but if he starts doing a lot more videos on garage builds they are going to be kinda cookie cutter. Dubber is a perfect example of having a style, but all 3 garage builds have some different elements that make threads interesting.

:)

My thoughts exactly, but you said it much more eloquently than I could have. Thanks, Dubber!

Appreciate that.

Eager to see the arrival of your new flooring. I'm not sure you're fully prepped for how it will transform the feel of your garage.

Tiny garage update. Finally got around to something I had been meaning to do, but been putting off since installing my cabinets last winter. I had to drill holes through the sides of the tall cabinets to run the cords for the power strips, but hadn't yet done anything about the actual holes.

49485847826_f7fff8aceb_c.jpg

I filed them down so I wouldn't slice my hand open, then installed some grommets that I ordered from Rubberfeetwarehouse.com. In case anyone else with NewAge Bold cabinets is curious, it seems like the following dimensions were absolutely perfect:

*1-1/4" OD
*3/4" ID
*1/16" Groove Width

Again, not a major update, but I'm sure some of you will appreciate how a tiny change like this can have a bigger effect than intended.

That is bold, i've avoided the thought of doing that but maybe i need to rethink it to make life easier with cord management.

Well Bold is my middle name, ha! :pimpflash

But in all seriousness, I found it to be almost a necessity due to the lack of outlets where I mounted my cabinets.

Couldn’t agree with you more. It’s always the “easy” little things hat give you the most grief.

Nice job by the way.

Congrats on ordering your flooring! That's really going to transform your space even more. I think my lack of flooring is what's holding my garage back from from getting to the next level, but there are just too many other things above it on the endless list of purchases. It's getting closer to the top though! Excited to see yours go down. It's going to tie in the rest of the work you've already done really well.

Another addition for my soon to be new pressure washer setup, a wand holder:

Can't wait to see that and the hose reel all mounted up and ready for action. Going to call another plumber for a second quote on running water into my garage. The first guy has been pretty MIA since he was supposed to get me a more precise quote.

And yet another pair of BMW-themed socks:

Doesn't look to be OG spec, where did you source it? And cool socks. I really dig the Martini Livery for Porsche which is very similar.

Correct. I found this on Ultimatewasher.com. This is the 22" stainless steel version. As much as I love OG, I have to realize I'm not a baller. That said, I am #ballinonabudget. So for just about 1/2 the price (including shipping), I found a solution that is perfect for me. Obviously the Mosmatic version is more polished and, as a result, shinier, but this one looks great, too!

Yeah, that Martini livery sure is sweet. If you (or anyone else) is interested in checking out their selection, here you go.

If you find something you want, use promo code FANDF20 to save 20%. I had initially wanted the BMW Inspired M Socks, but they're out of stock and don't envision producing any more of these, unfortunately. So I settled on the CSL verison.

I think thats the same place I got my wand holder. As much as I like OG, I am not over paying for a stainless tube. :lol_hitti

Yesterday was a pretty exciting day around these parts. First, FedEx dropped off a single box (the few Rubbertrax tiles and the looped edge pieces) early in the morning. Then the UPS driver (who happens to live a street down from me and actually has my number) texted me and said he had 17 boxes for me and asked where I wanted them. Usually, he comes down our street as one of his last stops (typically around 7pm), but today, he wanted to come earlier to clear up room in his trucks because, again, 17 boxes! :lol_hitti

Since I was working from home, I asked him if we could just wheel the boxes right into the garage with his dolly.

49526635702_efe2850c04_c.jpg

After shooting the **** for a bit and helping him unload, we had built up this Great Wall of Swisstrax:

49526635397_aae7ea938c_c.jpg

49526634427_cc9e525b2d_c.jpg

Even though I didn't have much time (dad duties until mom got home), I managed to take out a black tile and a grey tile to get an idea of what they look and felt like:

49527646237_b4ce0a6309_c.jpg

My boys seem almost as excited as I am about the new flooring:

49527420651_d6aea52310_c.jpg

49526910518_69a7397ac2_c.jpg

Seeing as Thursday is trash day for us, I spent a few minutes after taking the trash and recycling out playing with some more tiles. I slapped a few more of the grey tiles together and threw them near my wife's Jeep:

49529971842_c2ba1a301f_c.jpg

To say I'm excited would be a severe understatement. Because I couldn't find anyone local with a shear tile cutter for rent, I texted a buddy last night to see if he had a table saw I could borrow. Should be picking that up this weekend, but I'll really only need that for edge pieces. I'm hoping to start cleaning up the concrete floor tomorrow while I'm home working and then start laying the Swisstrax down.

Our weekend looks somewhat busy, so not sure how long it'll take, but I'll enjoy the process, regardless. I didn't want to have to start the M3 until spring, but I'll pick a nice, dry day and put her in the driveway for an afternoon.

Stay tuned, lots more photos to come!

You could say that!!!

All quiet on the eastern front. Someone must be quite busy this week.

Haha, yep....

/\ hahaha, busy, and hopefully verrrrry productive.

Just a bit....

It was a busy weekend, indeed, but I was able to spend about 7 hours in the garage yesterday doing some work. And by some work, I mean laying out my Swisstrax flooring!!!

giphy.gif

After moving most of the items on the floor and the M3 out of the garage (and starting it up for the first time since November with absolutely no hiccups), this is the canvas I had to work with:

49550201127_00ef59583d_c.jpg

GoPro setup for a time lapse:

49549473328_4b7ab4d0ef_c.jpg

A few shots, including some wide angle, with my iPhone 11 Pro Max:

49549482988_0dd1c26498_c.jpg

49550210482_5ac0bc7ae4_c.jpg

My math was a bit off and it looks like I need to order just a few more of the black tiles so I can finish off the area in front of my cabinets. Most of the black tiles you see there are Rubbertrax, to help fatigue when I'm standing at the cabinets working on projects:

49550223077_b28abe5836_c.jpg

49550223852_b478b6661f_c.jpg

Now my focus will be on making all the cuts for the remaining tiles. But I am beyond thrilled with how this came out. This garage is finally starting to take shape and become that dream garage I have wanted since owning my last home.

For anyone curious to see, here are the two time-lapse videos I recorded (two because my GoPro battery died about 3/4 way through):

Amazing work. The main problem with adding this type of floor, is that now small items not yet addressed do stick out hahaha. And i'm speaking from experience. Looking great in there :)

Video was amusing. Those types always are it's funny to look at one and see yourself get sidetracked or when your daughter came into play how things go. Garage looks great.

Question for those out there with this type flooring, can you use wheel castors for moving a car around?

Nice place to put the GoPro! Loved the angle. Now that reporter is going to have to go back to you place and take some new photographs :shocking:

This making me want to do swisstrax in my garage now.

Thanks, dude! And man, you hit the nail on the head. The staircase now sticks out like a sore thumb and will definitely be my next project.

Yep, my wife came out to talk to me for a bit, and my boys both snuck out and started running around the garage, helping me get all the flooring clicked together! They're big fans. And thank you!

I think as long as you use big enough castors with a bigger footprint, where the weight can be better dispersed, you'll be OK.

Yeah I toyed around with a few different locations, but settled on that and I'm glad I did. I'd love to have a follow-up article written in a few years once I get a few more things done in the garage. Good idea!

Incredible! Congrats man. Totally transforms your garage, it really looks spectacular.

 Thanks, dude! I smile every time I walk in there. Definitely made the right decision.

Small update, as I made a bit more progress on making cuts to the remaining tiles after spending a few hours in the garage yesterday:

Also, I may or may not have just ordered some new toys for the M3. Most notably:

Big milestone (not really) achieved yesterday....I officially finished installing the Swisstrax flooring. I took the day off and now all remaining edges/cuts have been made. Some photos of my handiwork:

I think for the under the stairs, I went plenty far enough in. You can only see that bare portion if you really get down on your knees and nobody but me is going to do that. I ended up with about 1 and 1/2 boxes of grey Ribtrax tiles left over, which is great because I'll be able to replace any that get damaged. I need to order about 10 more black tiles to finish off the area in front of the cabinets, but for now, I'm incredibly happy with how it all came out. Especially since this was my first time ever laying down any kind of flooring and I did it 100% by myself.

I found and ordered a couple of 12" x 36" stainless steel shelves from an online restaurant supplier. Going to mount these up to the bare well in front of the M3, along side my NewAge cabinets. Think I'll store my gallon sized detail chemicals here.

Now, the focus will temporarily shift to the M3. I've been stockpiling parts over the winter, including replacing a bunch of the center console parts to give the interior a refresh. You can see here just how beat up some of these pieces are:

49567586852_374e62ca9f_c.jpg

My youngest son's 2nd birthday party is tomorrow, so the goal is to get the car up on jackstands on Sunday to begin the suspension overhaul. Here is a sampling of the parts I've picked up:

Not to mention the spacers, angel eyes, etc. that I've had sitting on my bench for months now.

And I placed two more orders earlier this week for some more stuff, one on FCPEuro and one from ECS Tuning. Looking forward to giving the old girl some TLC and slowly getting her back to where she needs to be. And honestly, just driving her again.

Where does one get the patience to do such a job? Lol!

Man I cannot express how much I like to see new parts/accesories fresh out of the box. Sometimes I think it's more satisfying to do the research, buy, wait, receive them, photograph the boxes, unbox, and photograph said items; than having them in the car :lol_hitti

Doesn't the swisstrax require any gaps to allow for expansion? I used a different brand, and recommended about a 1/2 inch gap on the rear and side wall to allow for expansion with temperature change. The front lip of mine peaks during the summer if the garage is open and cars are out as the pieces expand some.

It looks good, and hope the suspension and freshening up goes well.

Yeah I'm looking forward to it. Granted I'm really the only one who sees the beat up interior, but it'll make me feel like I'm driving a newer car when it's all new and scratch-free.

Haha, patience isn't one of my strong suits, but it's also not the biggest issue. Time is! With my two boys, I have to find time in between naps, and lunch, and dinner, and playing, and cleaning, and etc etc to get all this stuff done. As I've said in the past, my wife rocks and will take the boys to the trampoline park or playground in order to get me some alone time in the garage.

Actually yeah, they recommend 1/4 inch. That said, Matt from OG says he's really only ever noticed an issue with direct sunlight affecting the tiles. And my home is north-facing, so I don't get any sun through my garage doors. So I don't foresee an issue, but I can always deal with that if and when the time comes!

Thanks, man. Me too! lol
