3 of the 5 cabinets mounted up...hoping they get to the shiplap tomorrow (don't think they'll be here today with the snow storm and all...one guy plows for a neighboring town):

Other than the where the lighting will be located, the ceiling tiles on the back side (closet to the backyard) are done:

Bathroom tile:

Matches the Lifeproof flooring pretty dang well:

Bathroom ceiling:

It's all coming together. Not sure it'll be done by Christmas at this point, but hopefully soon after!

Electrician swung by to start wiring switches and plugs, and mounted two (of 3) of my wife's eagerly anticipated wall sconces:

They're back today with the butcher block for the cabinets, which will be stained to match the stair treads and safety/hand rail, as well as the shiplap and other materials needed for the wall above the cabinets (we're doing black shiplap behind the TV) and for the board and batten in the bathroom. With the board and batten, we're going for something similar to this, just not as high up on the wall:

maxresdefault.jpg

We'll be doing some really cool peel and stick wallpaper above the board & batten....can't wait to show you guys what it is!

Progress!!! Going to be a great space and I really like the doors outside and how much you’re getting in what’s technically a basement.

May I ask, where did you find sconces? I have some hideous ones to replace in a few rooms. I keep finding ones that plug in instead of hardwired. I like the look of yours but would need other colors to match our stuff.

You certainly have excellent contractors working for you. I’m sure it wasn’t cheap to find guys that actually show up when they’re supposed to and also do great work. I guess I’m just jealous and consider my recent projects a “learning opportunity” instead.

Keep the updates coming! It’s motivating!

Very True, having a contractor and certain trades show up during holiday season sure can be tough, but good ones know their name is their money so they are there on time and do excellent work. Taking pride in their work and the final product is what it's all about.

I'm a bit envious about the space, having an extra 900 feet at my place would be awesome but my house was so poorly laid out that a blind man could have done a better job. but it was built in 1912 so it's been modified oh so many times lol. enough of me rambling

Hope You and Misses and Boy's have a great holiday.

Thanks, man! Yes, never had a walk-out basement before but now I don't know if I could ever go back to not having one. It's clutch, for sure!

My wife found the scones on Amazon...here's a link to them.

We got quotes from multiple companies/contractors and looked into the one we settled on even further by asking one of my parents neighbors about them after seeing their trucks in that driveway. Very happy with their promptness, cleanliness and quality thus far.

Probably going to hire them again in the future when the time comes to add a 3rd stall to my garage!!! :willy_nil

Ain't that the truth. The guy who owns the company we used has his name on everything, so he clearly wants to ensure they do only good work. Some of the guys we had in here for quotes, you just knew early on they were not the ones for the job. Like the one guy who tried talking us into adding hardwood floors in our basement. HARDWOOD FLOORS in a basement?!?! Yes we are waterproofing it, but still, the humidity level tends to be higher in a basement. You know what isn't good for hardwood floors...HUMIDITY. That guy was a dope.

We really need the space...with the boys getting bigger and outgrowing their current play area (which is where we originally had our kitchen dinette set located), we need a new place to store the majority of their toys. And daddy needs a dedicated location for movie nights and football Sundays! :)

LOL wow, 1912, that's impressive!! But, yes, home layouts weren't the focus back then.

Merry Christmas to you and yours, as well! Stay safe, Happy New Year and here's hoping to a much better 2021 for ALL OF US!

Maybe this summer we'll finally be able to get our BMW's together.

They're here now (like I said, PROMPT....they're usually pulling up consistently around 6:55-6:58am) working on the butcher block for the media/AV cabinets countertop. Finally getting around to the "fun" stuff!

Nice to see the basement coming together. Now I'm surprised your signature hasn't been updated as much fun as you have been having with your new daily. Still says the Accord is the daily.:bitchslap

The "space saver spare tire kit" that I should never have ordered for my M340i. Took up too much room and wouldn't let me fit either of the strollers, so it had to go. I do have runflats on the car for now, anyway, so less of a need for a spare. So I've sold the actual spare tire portion with the tools and carabiners/straps:

50706824232_dc7f002903_c.jpg

I've already swapped in the non-space saver trunk floor, but still have these pieces remaining that I'm trying to sell:

50752456137_2a7ae44515_c.jpg

And two more stainless shelves my wife picked up for me. Not sure where to mount them yet, but I do have some ideas. Going to wait until the basement is done before worrying about this, though:

And a glamour shot of the rear spoiler, just because:

The guys are here for a half day, but I'm thinking (aka hopeful) that they'll finish the job up by next week. On that note, Merry Christmas (or Happy "whatever holiday you do celebrate"...I don't discriminate) and Happy New Year to you all! Eff you 2020, bring on 2021!! Cheers!

I originally thought that scones wasn't going to clear the door. Then realized the door opened the other way. Sooo close to being done!!!

And get that garage cleaned up, and the top of the cabinets dusted. :)

:lol_hitti

I know, I know. It's a complete mess, but it's slowly getting back to being "my" garage, now that all of the basement items are, you know, in the basement. Phew!

I'll get those cabinet tops cleaned up eventually...maybe come Spring-cleaning! ;) haha

OK so other than the bathroom (hopefully that wraps up sometime this coming week/weekend), the basement is DONE!!!! My wife and I wasted no time getting it setup:

Those were all taken Christmas weekend. Here are a few more updated photos showing the other touches we've managed to incorporate (cabinet hardware, surround sound, bathroom finishes....excuse the mess behind the couch; we do have to share the basement with the kids!!):

Suffice it to say, we spend most of our time down here. Especially once the boys are in bed...because this:

So binge watching Yellowstone (her and I) and now Cobra Kai (just me) has been MUCH more relaxing! So incredibly happy with how this basement has come out. Our next step is to start adding decor and what not. I've already got some ideas on how to incorporate more subtle Star Wars and automotive decor. Stay tuned!

Who wants some garage content?? If you said yes, then let me first apologize because I don't have much. But it is garage-related, so it counts! I had asked for and received for Christmas floor mat clamps to use when detailing cars. My sister-in-law got me these from Amazon:

And here they are mounted:

The 2nd and final foundation crack that was letting in water was finally repaired on Saturday. Again, though the crack is in the unfinished room, the little water that was making its way in was flowing into the finished area. Happy to have the peace of mind that our huge investment should now be protected from water damage for years to come:

50872852457_487460024a_c.jpg

50872852452_069c306dd4_c.jpg

That now means my wife and I get to sort through all this **** that we jammed in here so that the basement work could begin, and properly store and clean it all up (everything in here is DUSTY as hell) so we can actually walk thru the storage room from one end to the other:

Ended up grabbing a MaxShine dual-polisher rack for the garage, which gave me a great excuse to do some reorg work with the existing Rubbermaid FastTrack rails in order to give myself the necessary space. I'm also finally mounting the additional 2 stainless steel shelves that my wife scored for free for me from Wayfair.

Here's the polisher rack:

50872047178_4c2da67527_c.jpg

Matches my cabinets fairly well:

50872046548_9d997486e2_c.jpg

And here is how the walls looked prior:

50793112981_6764ef5206_c.jpg

50793208962_fb4f21f659_c.jpg

And here is where I ended up last night when my fingers were just about frozen (I was too lazy to grab the propane tank and heat up the garage with my torpedo heater):

50872046413_d5159c1fc2_c.jpg

50876317307_de74a1596b_c.jpg

So what I did was swap the 7 foot FastTrack rail over to the left side of the window, where the 4 foot rail was previously located. I'm not going to reuse the 4 foot rail on this wall and might use it in the storage area of the basement or in the shed. I then put the polisher rack and the first of the 2 stainless shelves where the 7 foot rail had previously been located. The shelf in the photo is the upper one, so the other shelf will be located directly below it, with enough room for a gallon-sized detailing bottle in between the two.

My plan is to wait for warmer weather before I patch up any holes and touch up the paint on that far wall. I'll be creating more space in my cabinets by removing my 3" and 6" polishers (for the rack) and various detailing products that will be relocated to the new shelves. That, and I still have the two cabinets above the yet to be plumbed sink (he was here yesterday for final inspection of plumbing in the basement....we agreed that he'd come back in the Spring to tie in the garage sink, since I won't be using it much the rest of the winter, anyway) that are pretty much empty. Thinking of putting automotive fluids in one of them and using the other for shop towels/soap/etc.

As many of you know, the garage is a never-ending journey with no "finished product". It's just consistently improving on the design and layout and working with what you have. What I hope to have in 4-5 years is a 3 car garage!! Only time will tell.

Cheers!

Nice, that polisher rack is cool! Is the opening in the bottom for power cord storage? And how did you manage to get free shelves from wayfair haha. Inquiring minds need to know.

Bingo! It's a pretty legit unit at a great price on Amazon (says black, but clearly it's grey): polisher rack link.

Haha, fair enough! My wife was somehow invited to be part of a review group that can choose 2 items/month from a very small, select list of "free items". All she has to do is take photos and post a review of the items and they are ours to keep. They don't often have a great selection of these "free" items, but once in a while, you do get lucky. Can't wait to see how this affects us come tax time!

Other than the holes and paint needed, here is the "finished" product:

I still need to do some tidying in the garage, as well as some cord/hose management with my air compressor and pressure washer setups. But little by little, it's getting there.

Sorry to go off-topic, but since I'm not from the US, I sometimes get "lost in translation". Why do you say "free" (instead of free), and why would free/"free" stuff affect you tax-wise?

Basement came out fantastic. Next I see a small kitchen going in for an in-law space lol.

when is lift getting installed?

Hahaha...if anything, I'm going to be the one moving down there. I spend as much time down here as I can, anyway. It's awesome!

We'll see...maybe I'll get a 4 post once the wife gets a new daily (late summer/early fall) and requests her garage space back, that way I can store both BMW's in the garage.

No worries, don't be sorry! I say "free" because even though we aren't paying for the items, the US government will tax you any way they can. So this will no doubt be added to our taxable income, meaning, we'll pay slightly higher taxes (I mean, we're probably just talking dollars at this point). So while we aren't paying for the items, we are going to be taxed on them. Hence the use of "free" vs free.

As the old adage goes, nothing in life is free!! :)

OK so the basement bathroom is now officially done (also, side note, final building inspection took place on Tuesday). Here is the finished product, in all its wallpaper glory:

Still waiting for the prints I ordered weeks ago to arrive...starting to get nervous that USPS lost them. Looking forward to getting them up on the walls and starting the decor process.

:lol_hitti Thank you, sir!!

And it went great. The only thing left is the bathroom fan needs to be vented outside. Plumbers typically do that, but mine didn't. So once the weather warms up a bit, the contractor is going to send his guys over to do that one lsat bit and we'll be good to go. I don't envision needing to use the shower down there anytime soon. That was more of a "thinking ahead" plan for once we have a pool.
