This is NOT me...... Its Someone else.

"........ i really want to buy some sort of heater for my shop. I'm pretty much always welding out there, either practicing something or building something, so i have at least one big door open for ventilation, and im going to lose alot of heat that way.

So, whats the best way for me to go here? Im looking for something thats fairly cheap to buy, cheap to run and puts out alot of heat, to warm things up and cover the heat lost through the doors.

What would you guys recommend? Propane, electric?
"

And the responses.................... (I love these:) :) :) )

"wool"

"SUMMER"

Around here, natural gas is the cheapest and electric is the most expensive to operate. Propane falls in the middle. South of Hotlanta, you shouldn't need too much right?

Oops, just re-read your post. Misunderstood.

 c'mon, does it even go down to 32 degrees in Texas??

 It was a balmy 6 degrees out this morning in New England, I thought to myself, darn, almost time to go find my hat.

Do people from the South need heat in their garages? What, is it "cold" for a month a year there? If I can get my garage temp up to 55f I am happy.

Hell yeah I need heat. When its 55f outside I got both my 30k btu dearborns running. We southerners arent designed to work in anything less than 70f. It may only be 55 outside but with the windchill it could be all the way down to 50!!!! Have to resort to straight Jim Beam to keep from freezing up.

Out of curiousity what temp do people in the South keep their homes in the winter? I keep our thermostat at 68f. Would that be too cold for a person who lives in the Sun belt?

Damn, anything over 60 in the shop and I can't work. I have a wood stove but I've never actually used it. 65 is about as warm as it gets in the house....

AMEN Brother!

I work too dammed hard to be cold on my down time at the house...

68 night 72 day

Also I spend too much heating my garage but I feel its worth it to enjoy my time in comfort when I'm not at work.

55 when dark 68 when wrenching or when just enjoying my man cave (TV/PC/Stereo/Beer fridge) it can reach 72 as well.

In the summer, I like the house at about 60, in the winter anywhere up to about 72, depending how cold it is outside. In the winter I keep the garage at 50, unles I'm working on soemthing out there then I'll turn it up to maybe 60.

Right now, it's 25 outside, and with the wind-chill it's way less than that... and it's only going to get colder. Lots colder, today.
