What's up.. I've been a lurker here for quite a while but never signed up until now, sharing our life and looking for more inspiration.. I know a membership on here usually means a hit for the bank account anyway..
My garage is no where near some of the projects here, but I don't own this place and won't be putting a lot of money into nice tiles and the likes. I prefer originality and simplicity over flashy colors and themed garages; having said that, all respect to those who follow their dream the way they feel it should be done!! It ain't called a mancave for nothing
Some about me; I live in Oslo, Norway in an apartment with one outdoor parking space. My interests are older cars in general, working on making what I have better at a slow speed and doing light restos. Suffice to say, an apartment alone won't make a car hoarder happy. I do like living in the city at this point, but in some years down the line I'm looking into buying a house. Until then I'll have my remote/off-site garage/lock-up. I used to rent a barn; we called it the toy barn:
The drive up there was a little too long; over the course of summer '11 with heavy rain it proved to be pretty damp in there as well. I had a buddy that was looking into getting a little lock-up and autumn '11 a very good place popped up.. About 30 mins from home, decent rent, nice landlord. It was loaded up with equipment, tractor parts and wood.. Cleaned it out, painted the walls and started moving things in.. At this point we were four guys combined and I still had my barn full of cars.
My Mk3 Golf moved in with a work bench from the old barn (and transported on the bed of my old Nissan HB
)
Over the summer '12 one of the guy bought a house and the other moved.. I figured if I got rid of some cars and made things compact, I could move everything into the new garage.
From the outside, my old ratfink Cressida, 86 Golf and 81 Daihatsu two-speed auto:

Winter
As you see, it was getting fuller by the months. By autumn/winter '12 everything was moved out. After a trip to Tokyo, Japan I was hugely impressed with how they manage to make the most out of small space over there.. Also some of the cars we have are Daihatsus, with the slogan 'We make it compact'.. We have decided to bring that theme over to the garage. After cleaning up a lot, getting old book and metal shelves to get things out of the way, we're here:
Not present in these pics is my 59 Beetle, my 86 Golf and my Daihatsu Charade GTti (turbo one-liter three-pot).. The red Charade Turbo to the far right here is just a car I picked up for another dude awaiting him to collect. The red Mk3 Golf is in the process of being parted out and the red Charade to the left is a track car project that's donated most of its interior parts and other bits to my GTti project.. The car tucked away in the inner corner is my buddy's Charade GTti.
The plans for the garage is simple; build some shelves to take more advantage of the height and tidy it up a little more. I know some keep their garages looking mint and some nearly live there
D). Mine is used pretty heavily though, so expect some wear of sorts. These days I have limited amount of time to spend tooling on cars sadly, but it's a place where I can store my cars, where we can do anything from daily driver maintenance to small builds and projects including welding and blasting and generally have a good time. I'm sure all in here can relate to the last part
My choice in cars is pretty weird, but I'm no different than the other guy; clean survivors is where my heart is and I'm really open to any manufacturer. Having all too many Daihatsus at the moment is just a coincidence
Good thing they are small, so we can fit them all, haha.
The outside on a good day, the car on the far left being my GTti project which is a keeper, together with the blue car and the white car. The GTti was the first completed car to be completed at the new garage (it has been completed since this picture and you'll see more of it in the future).
The GTti last winter, for reference:
My 59 Beetle for the record as an introduction of me
Thanks for reading, or looking at the pics anyway..
Looking forward to lurk and contribute more here.
