Hi guys, new to this board and just thought i'd post my project up here. :)

ok, so i'm in the UK and i haven't as much space/money as most of you guys but i'm hoping i can make a decent garage/workshop to build a dune buggy in...

here's how it looks at the moment...
all_my_base.jpg

Its about 8m long by 3m wide... should be wide enough to open one door on my vw camper inside... and should be long enough for a campervan and a sectioned off room at the other end.
It's going to be made out of timber, fully insulated and slatted on the outside similar to the shed on the right. It will have an apex roof with recycled rubber (car tyre) roof tiles and the front doors will be like barn doors rather than an up-and-over door 'cos my camper is too high ;) As much as possible to do with this build will be made out of recycled/reclaimed materials and I've already got a bank of furniture/equipment i've rescued from various places.
I'll see if i can draw out some plans of what it should look like and post them up here.
I've gotta say, this place is very inspirational and has already given me a few ideas of how i can tackle a few things on this project.

eeh bah gum thou must have strayed along way from home to find this forum:bounce:

i know what you mean about garage size. Mine is 15ft * 24ft and i was so happy to get that after working out of a 10*6 wooden shed. Make sure you have a read of 'Oldcarguy's thread in this forum. Makes you want to cry...

I like the sound of the roof tiles. Where do you source them from?

well, i've a couple of leads but they're not actually that easy to get hold of unfortunately. There's a place called Ryburn Rubber that may be able to make some but there's also somewhere called e-b-c-uk which already have them in production. Dunno about the price just yet. I may end up using some recycled felt tiles or something...

this is going to be my first garage so anything is going to be better than the street. Tell you what, it's no fun driving two wheels up on the kerb just to get enough space underneath a car to work on... lol :D

A lot of very nice automotive projects have been completed in much smaller shops.

Some of us (Yanks) may have more space but you guys have us beat when it comes to inginuity and adaptability.

Looking forward to seeing more pictures as you progress.

Wow - now I'm not so pissed I could only go 1000 sq feet:bounce:! But like has been said, much can be done with much less. I did my Galaxie (below) in my one-car garage. When I welded the Quarters on I had my back up against the wall- literally! It actually was quite comfy...a while ago I did a car in a garage with no heat or light, so I always had a three-way plug beside me: one for the tool I was using, one for a light and one for a space heater blowing on my backside!:shocking:
Let's see pics as you move along and WELCOME!

I have always deviated towards tandem garages over wider ones since I like the peace and quiet you can acheive sucked into a small little cave like spot. That is if you like to work in front of the vehicles. That being said I would add on a couple feet to sides so its easy to work on the vehicle when need be.
