Been watching and lurking for about a year. Some terrific ideas & info here.
Bought a corner property in downtown Toronto last August. I've been doing
a reno on the interior starting in Dec, almost complete.
Phase two is a garage. At the moment there is a single attached garage.
The plans is to knock that down to about 3' high and use the walls to support a walk out deck 20'x12' off the back of the house. Then build a
free standing 2 car garage at the back of the lot.
Long story short, applied for a variance to footprint the thing closer to the
house in the rear than by-law. Neighbor objected, court hearing at City Hall
allowed the variance. Same neighbour appealed it up to OMB (Ontario Municipal Board) and they got beat up there too. I'm good to go.
Probably need some questions answered on the way through.
