Removing a frozen gas pump globe?

Any tips other than waiting for spring?

Thought about putting some salt in there – but not sure I want to encourage corrosion later if I can help it.

What say you?

I would tent over it with a tarp and put a non-combustable heat source in the tent. Works for bricklayers laying morter in the winter so it should work to thaw your globe

Tent it and place a 100 watt light bulb by it. This is commonly used to keep pipes from freezing under sinks at cabins in the north if the heat gives out.

tarp and a kerosene torpedo heater. We do this all the time at work when we have frozen stuff sitting outside we want to move inside.

UPDATE: I really liked the heating blanket idea - but I don't have one which leads to another problem entirely!! Supposed to get into single digit temps this weekend - I'm probably gonna need a heating blanket!!!

The more direct heat approaches - while possibly just as good - scared me - it's not a rare globe but I was afraid to break it - it's so freakin' cold right now I was afraid to try.

A fella at work suggested a rather good idea - methanol! I use it in the digger so I already had some - it took longer than I would have guessed, but after a couple minutes it worked! I figured since the methanol was at the same temp I was probably OK in terms of shocking it.

So once again the warm glow of an Era long gone still glimmers with hope in my back yard!!!

Thanks to everyone that posted - I really appreciate the feedback!!!!
