FRP Board?

My new garage is all OSB. Was thinking of putting FRP board over it due to all the grinding, plasma cutting etc.
Would the garage wall look stupid if I covered the entire wall with this?

And finally do I have to glue it in or can I just use the plastic inserts and be good?


I was really wanting to paint it, but I realized it's not drywall.

A couple of thoughts...the big box stores don't sell the commercial class A finish rated frp. That means it isn't flame retardant. Class A will cost more at a commercial sales house. It is available in white or cream colors. Part of the benefit of frp is its moisture resistance, punching holes in it seems counterintuitive but they do sell the plastic expansion anchors as you mention (maybe these get siliconed). Could be easily wiped down when dirty and reflects light well. One or two walls of frp or a corner trimmed out with splines ,corners & edges might look OK only you can make that call.

Only your eye will be able to see if it looks stupid. I'm guessing that it will look practical.

Look into fire retardant paint, I was planning to use that in a shed I was building but never did do it. Also look into tin cladding or something like that it will deal well with sparks.

Then you need to hang drywall, neither OSB, or FRP board are smooth.

Although most guys wouldn't do it, I have seen a whole shop building that was sheeted n OSB and then the owner skim coated it with hardwall plaster. You couldn't tell it wasn't drywall or full plaster. You could also use drywall filler and a wide trowel, light sand between coats, prime and paint. Its a cheap way to fix a lot of wall issues and is alos commonly done after removal of wallpaper.

Save your money and buy cabinets to store your rags, flammables etc. I've never started a fire with the grinder, plasma welder etc; only dry rags usually soaked in oil from previous use.

I used FRP in my garage toilet enclosure, I am glad I did. The panels, mastic and plastic trim strips came from a big box home center.

I would do it again.

The only thing I ever caught on fire when welding , grinding and cutting was my shirt . Get a leather apron and wear it .
