Frustrated with Home Depot

For a while now I have been watching their Ridgid MaxSelect Impact Driver. It was set at a huge price discount ($129 down to $49) but it was only available for purchase online but never in stock.

Sunday I decided to do my semi-daily check and wham, it was there and available to order. So I ordered it, they charged my card, got my order confirmation...and then I get a message this morning that they have canceled my order. I wonder what gives here.

It was such a great deal that I would love to find a way of salvaging it. Does anyone have any suggestions or past experiences with HD that may help me keep this nice price, even if I have to wait for a while?

Thanks in advance,
JJ

The gain ($80) is not worth the headache in my opinion. It may be wrong of them to cancel a contract, but you will find in the small print that they reserve the right to cancel. You can't win against these faceless stores. If you do contact someone it is most likely above their pay-grade to sell it to you.

I would put a face on it. Walk into your local HD store, show them a copy of the transaction and see if they will give you a rain check on the item when it becomes available.

The worse case scenerio is that they decline . . . When you walk in, and there is a face to a sale, often times that is the difference in getting what you want.

id be willing to bet that if you made contact via phone and or store manager youll get somewhere. Give them both a shot and see what happens

Completely agree. But you can win by shopping elsewhere. Even if you shop online it may still be "faceless," but they at least don't pretend to be anything they're not; HD tries to act like they can help you, but they hire imbeciles, and the few smart employees are held back by corporate politics, random zone stocking policies, and other nonsense.

I think the thing that frustrates me the most about HD is their 15th century excuse for an inventory management system. Stores in the same town can't even price things the same for sale items, and tend to not honor the price at other local HD stores, let alone competitors. Ugh.

I have had that same thing happen to me with Home Depot. When I looked into it I found that the price I paid was an error and that they were not obligated to honor it. My money was returned and life went on.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. There are a couple different managers over at my local store that should know me well enough by now to let me bend their ear. I'll give it a go and report back.

Thanks!

From my experiences w/ online purchases and in-store personnel, they're entirely independent operations.

Call customer service first and discuss what options you have. They seem to know more about processes than in-store reps.

Really strange turn of events here... so I walked in to one of the HDs I hit and was about to go talk to the manager. All the while I was picking up a couple small other things for a project and decided to swing by the power tools sections...sitting there is only 1 driver marked at $49.99. As I went to grab it a contractor mentioned what a great deal it was and if I put it down he would nab it...nothing doing.

anyway, how is this for Karma, I spent less this way because I did not pay shipping and tax, just the tax.

Funny how things work out. Lemonade does come from lemons!

Good for you! Glad every thing worked out, few people could say that would be the out come for them.

Would you mind posting a picture of this set? I'm curious how big it is and why it costs so much? :headscrat

Home Depot's customer service appears to be well trained in saying "we cannot price match Home Depot.com" and "sorry, they're a different store than us and we cannot price match them."

Sure thing, here it is. In all honesty it is nothing super special but I am switching over all my gear from Ryobi to Ridgid and the drill (recently purchased) and impact driver are what I use most, so I was willing to track them down with vigor.

Anyway, thanks for all the comments guys. Sometimes things just work out for the best and that is a lesson I am still learning after all these years.

Yáll stay good!
JJ

i had a problem with walmart a while back. I spent about 2 hours compiling a list of email addresses for their corporate schmucks. i sent the email directly to them with my complaint and the next day i had managers from 2 different stores groveling to me trying to make me happy.

faceless company's have decision makers. these people are antisocial. so they place at least 4 levels of people below them to make sure you can't get to them. if you find a way to them you will get what you want.
