FS: high end extension cords

I have a couple high end extension cords for sale. First, let me say these are not cheap and do not compare with what you get for $20-$50 at homedepot or costco.

First is a red 50ft 14ga cord with hubbell industrial grade connectors. This one is $52 shipped in usa via priority mail. I have a couple available. Can also do 25ft for $32 shipped.

Then I have a yellow rubber 100ft 12/3 with quad box end. It is not assembled, i will do so after it sells so expect it to take 3-5 days for me to get it out the door. $185.00 shipped in USA via ups ground. (this sounds like alot of money but realize this wire costs around $1.50/ft, the rubber quad boxes are $50 or so, plus the other parts. Also note this wire is very heavy duty -look at the pictures to see how thick the jacket is. The picture shows a yellow outlet box, yours will be black. The receptacles are black industrial grade.

I might be interested in the 25' red cord to replace a broken drop light that I have been using as a cord for my saw and shop vac (sad, I know.) Is there anything I would not want to run with a 14ga cord?

i wouldnt use 14ga with a welder or at 100ft+ lengths with things like circular saws.

yes, not making them to sell on here, these are surplus to my needs.

That is something that should be announced MrB, because homemade extension cords can't technically be used on a job site, they are not UL listed.

completely not true. i will cite the OSHA section later tonight that specifically allows these. They are called 'field assembled' extension cords and are expressly permitted when assembled using UL listed material in accordance with manufacturer's instructions by a qualified individual which these are.

Ahh I was told when I got my 10 hour card that they were not allowed, even when made from UL listed materials. Go figure, thanks for the heads up and sorry about the confusion.

here is the relevant portion of the OSHA opinion on the matter

All components must be approved for the purpose by a nationally recognized testing laboratory (1926.403(a)). Individual components must be compatible for use with the other components of the completed assembly.


The cord set must meet all applicable requirements of Subpart K. For example, the assembly must be marked appropriately (1926.403(g)); boxes intended for use in a permanent installation may not be used (1926.403(b)(1)(i)); cords must be connected to devices and fittings so as to provide strain relief (1926.405(g)(2)(iv)); cords passing through holes in enclosures must be protected by bushings or fittings designed for the purpose (1926.405(g)(2)(v) – fittings designed to fasten cables to metal boxes are not acceptable); and no grounded conductor shall be attached to any terminal or lead so as to reverse designated polarity (1926.404(a)(2)).


The cord set must be assembled by a qualified person.


The wiring of the completed assembly must be checked before the cord set is first used. For example, the following, or equivalent, tests should be performed:
(a) All equipment grounding conductors shall be tested for continuity and shall be electrically continuous.

(b) Each receptacle and attachment plug shall be tested for correct attachment of the equipment grounding conductor. The equipment grounding conductor shall be connected to its proper terminal.
