is it just me or do those needle nose look like they have been ground down? and the dykes look like they have been roughed up or are they just dirty?

Cutters are just dirty an used. An so dealer will warranty them and give you a new pair. The needles have not been ground, they just got a little heat when I used them to hold a copper fitting when I was sweating a pipe fitting at home.
