Fuel line disconnect for Toyota?

I have an '03 Toyota Matrix, and it has gotten next to impossible to fill the tank. I have to fill at a very slow rate, otherwise it trips the overflow valve on the fuel handle. Most of my research indicates one of the vent lines is clogged, so I stuck it on the lift today to figure out where the clog was....and got nowhere.

There is some kind of canister (evap/charcoal?) that has several hoses going to it, and I didn't get too far. I attempted to pull the largest 3/4" line, but didn't have the correct disconnect tool.

I had two different 3/4" disconnects, the first was too short, and the 2nd too long to get into place.

I need to order the correct tool, but can't decide if this one will be correct:

Any ideas?

Tried squeezing, wouldn't move the prongs enough to clear the lip.

They are supposed to release when you squeeze the tabs, but they don't work very well. I have used a 90 degree pick to lift the tabs enough to release

Squeeze and get help with a gentle nudge from a pick or small screwdriver. I would look at the fuel inlet hose to the tank. On my own truck someone replaced the fuel pump and when they reinstalled the hose the MF kinked it. Some cars also have a vapor hose inside the inlet hose and they may have effed that up as well.

I always used a pick or pocket screw driver on those fittings. Rock it to one side and use the screw driver to get one claw past the retainer, then pry up gently on the other claw while pulling, it will come right off.

Just squeeze and gently pry with pick or pocket screwdriver.

Had a similar prob with my nissan it was the solenoid purge valve that needed to be replaced.

You should be getting a code for it.

Also use some compressed air and blow it out. Also use like Pb blaster to lubricate it. Had to do that on many oil field trucks.

When I was a Toyota dealership tech we just used a small pick or screwdriver to bend the tabs out. No special tool was provided to us or mentioned in the service literature. Are you getting any codes? As I remember we put alot of canisters on early 2000's models, as well as canister purge valves.

It is throwing a code, but I can't remember the number at this time. I've put it on the back burner for right now, as I have been working on one of my Jeeps this week. Its stuck on the lift right now, so I won't mess with the car until I can get it back off the ground. Of course, the previous slight leak on my port side MaxJax post has now become more of a deluge, so the cylinder will have to be rebuilt before I lift anything else.
