Fuel Pump Intermediate Failure?

2014 Acura TSX 150k miles. 4 Cylinder, Automatic.

My car is difficult to start sometimes after sitting for a while, there's an extended period to crank before start. However, I turn the car on (engine off) and wait for a few seconds, she starts right up. I suspect I have a fuel pump issue or something not maintaining proper fuel pressure while the car is turned off.

My question is can I just keep on doing what I'm doing, and just wait for a few seconds with the car on and engine off, prior to starting my car, or will this problem just keep on getting worse and worse and eventually this won't work any longer?

Not much other options. Replace the fuel pump that might not be bad?

Define " extended period of cranking" ?

Don't see a lot of Honda fuel pump module failures, could also be a injector leaking down when parked.
How long does it sit before it gets hard to start?

My car does the same if it sits for more than a couple of hours. I am pretty sure it is the residual fuel pressure check valve. Activate ignition, wait 2 seconds until the fuel pump noise quits, fires right up. It has been doing it for almost 3 years. I usually only use the fuel priming technique on a morning startup. The rest of the time I am not out of the car that long. Then it is fire right up and go. Fuel injector type cleaners in the tank have not helped, so if and when the fuel pump ever fails, it will get a new one.

Does it produce a big cloud of blue/white smoke on start-up? Does your oil level go up over time?

I suspect fuel pressure regulator--but I know nothing about Honda fuel systems.

Could be, the regulator is part of the pump module, more testing with the proper tools is needed to tell for sure.

Isn't there a return regulator on the fuel rail that also maintains the prime? Like I said, no experience with Honda systems, just generical fuel injection systems.

There is a check valve on the fuel pump module normally. This is what begins to leak an causes the condition you describe. When I had my 1998 Grand Prix this was the problem which was solved with a new fuel pump.
