The front notched/serrated jaws found on the above linked Fujiya and Nejisaurus/screw removal pliers, isn’t a completely modern design.
Utica and other manufacturers used to make What were usually called “Gas pliers” which had this type of serrated concave groove at the tip of the jaws.
Not all pliers called “Gas Pliers” had or have this feature, but is was common enough anongst a variety of manufacturers, and Cementex even currently manufactures the old style of Gas pliers with this feature.
A quick search thru eBay shows pliers from Utica, Lowentrout, CS Osborne, Pexto, and other manufacturers which all have the feature.
the main difference with the Japanese plier designs, and the older US designs, is the serrated design on the Japanese pliers is sometimes concavely cut on either side, possibly giving a better grip on a wider variety of screw head sizes, and the Japanese pliers are mostly a smaller handier size, and have cutters built in.
