Full face, hooded eye protection, does it exist?

I was 98% done with the work under the car, been cleaning up rust, wire wheeling, painting and finishing installing the hitch and putting the bumper back on. Was jumping between face shield, full face respirator and goggles when I'd come back outside and do a bit more work under the car, had a single 10mm bolt to put back in on the exhaust heat shield and forgot to put some sort of eye protection on instead of just eye glasses, bumped the muffler and knocked some junk off,got something in my eye, don't know it it was metal, dirt or something else. Had my second trip to the urgent care in about as many years, thought I lacerated my sclera. I got bad enough luck to get in these sorts of situations, but so far have had exceptionally good luck at bad luck not turning into a severe medical situation, so the doctor took a look and said it there was no punctures or lacerations. I'm sick of relying on luck.
As is the rule with eye protection, it always seems to be defeated. Regular glasses, prescription safety glasses, faceshields it always seems something manages to slip through a gap, no matter how unlikely it's supposed to be. Safety googles, junk piles up top near your forehead and it falls down and ends up in your face once you pull them off.
This made me think of trying to get some sort of hooded down to the shoulders faceshield to be about as 100% sure that it doesn't happen again. All I can find are parts for full suit respirator systems intended to be used with filters or powered systems. Does anyone know of something like picture related intended to be used without filtration systems? I was thinking of just picking up a second full face respirator to run without the filters, but if I could find something that has more coverage I'd like to pick one up to save me from another panic filled waste of a few hours and $100 copays.

Full face respirator with/without filters seems like it would do the trick.

I wear mine for cutting plaster with an angle grinder, tuckpointing, etc. all sorts of high velocity debris generating activities. never had anything penetrate or make it through

I have a 3m 6700 and it works extremely well. Not cheap

For a face shield. I use a uvex bionic

Unless you really need to cover your neck, I'd skip the hood

The main reason I would want the hood is because I have the same thing occur with full face that happens with goggles sometimes. The build up on top seal/head falling into the respirator or on my face when taking it off and then I have to wipe it out which is irritating.

uvex bionic

i like mine but find it somewhere between fiddly and impossible to properly wear it together with a respirator, over-the-ear hearing protection, and a headlamp.

with "full" PPE, do people usually go foam earplugs instead?

maybe i should get a full mask respirator like a 6700 to simplify it slightly...

On sale at Amazon as we speak.

The 6800 model is the medium which fits most folks. Get some tear offs to protect the shield.

Subscribed - I had glass bead from sandblasting get into my eye after I was done sandblasting and was removing my eye protection. A full-head integrated mask/hood/faceshield would be awesome.

Is the Uvex Bionic impact rated? I noticed a crack in the headband of my 3m shield yesterday, I taped it but I wouldn't mind buying a better shield. But unlike the 3m polycarb that is molded in a curve, that Uvex as a flat sheet that you bend into the housing so I'm imagine it's more of a dust shield than something that'd eat an angle grinder disc.

I don't necessarily need a respirator built in, but it would be nice. Unfortunately it seems like most of these sorts of things are intended with full body suits and for nasty stuff, so the prices are very steep since it's intended against stuff that'd melt your lungs.

tear offs from where?

is the shield not replaceable? i guess that could make sense since it needs to seal well.
Amazon, 3M, or many other places. The shield is replaceable but tear offs are much cheaper

I always use plugs instead of over ear. They have higher NRR and are more comfortable with glasses

This is how I got a big chunk of something in my eye.

You have to move your head downward, brush or blow off the debris, and then remove the safety gear. Have not found a way around it.

For grinding stuff, any real job I have been on requires Spoggles when an angle grinder comes out. Some require a face shield OVER Spoggles.

Spoggles:

Full face shield:

MSA Face Shield headgear (need a visor to go with it):

I took a woodturning class last year and they had newfangled space age looking face shields that seal against your face/chin. Don’t recall the brand for sure but did some googling and I think this may be it:

Though thinking about this… you know what’d work? My motorcycle helmet! Next time I really don’t wanna get something in my eye I’ll throw that on

You are sounding a bit paranoid, but I hear you. By all means always wear eye protection!! Under car rust work is going to scatter **** everywhere obviously. I like the UV Bionic face shield and i really can't stand wearing more than that. I need to buy another just because eyeballs are not cheap or easy to come by... Side scatter debris USUALLY works itself out without major injury...

Actually that's not a half bad idea. Probably not in the specific situation I was in, but in place of a face shield I might give it a shot, probably cut the decibels down too since I'm too lazy to use hearing protection, plus safety glasses, plus a face shield.

It's not paranoia if they are out to get you. I have had all of the above happen, not all ending in medical visits but even if it's some dust wastes a lot of time having to stop and resolve the issue. A plastic bag would probably suffice for what I was doing but the whole breathing part might be a problem.

Basically I just want this but a little smaller and not disposable. I'd even go for that but it seems like a medical supply only thing and they come in cases of 50 which perhaps would be just a tinsy bit overkill.

Yeah full face models have pretty great coverage. I think mine has a small open spot at my chin but that's it. It'd be bulbous but I could see it being good in some circumstances. Totally with you on wanting good eye protection. I do my best with safety goggles and at times a face shield but haven't found a setup I feel great about either.
