Now that is it is starting to finally cool off some I am going to get started on my garage floor project. I just have a few questions before I get started. Garage is about 2 years old, 760sqft, with nothing on the slab. I want to do a full broadcast chip floor.

I plan on renting an Ebco 10in grinder for the prep. What diamonds do I need to use for the proper surface?

Do I need to use a primer or can I skip the primer?

What's everyone using for top coat now? Epoxy or polyaspartic

What is everyone's preferred place to source materials? Online or local (Nashville)

Anything else I need to know. I have watched 1000 vidoes, I'm just excited to get my garage into a place I want to spend time!

Welcome aboard!

For 760sf at a minimum rent the Edco twin head grinder from a dedicated equipment rental yard such as Sunbelt as they will have the diamonds that you need and, just as important, the correct dust extraction equipment.

For a full broadcast chip floor we recommend/offer Wolverine Coatings' 100% solids primer, semi-ceramic body coat, flood coat and our hybrid urethane top coat. For high U.V. exposure applications you can substitute the clear epoxy flood coat with an additional coat of the hybrid urethane top coat. For more info just visit: Wolverine Coatings' Chip Floor System

Thanks for the info. That brings up a couple more questions.

My shop has is divided up into 6 125sqft squares with the relief cuts. I am concerned that there is really no way I can do all 750sqft with the attention needed all by myself. Can I do a square or two at a time?

It's not ideal but given the relief cuts totally doable, the fact that you are going full rejection really helps as well as it eliminates any potential color mismatch. I would actually break it up in to two 350sf sections, do the BondTite primer all at once and then you can "take your time" with the remaining two 350sf sections. One of the unique features of Wolverine's BondTite 1101 is that it has a 14 day recoat window. I think that once the BondTite is down you'll find that applying the remaining coats goes much easier than you anticipated and you'll end up just getting it done all at once. Typically we face having to breakup a job into multiple sections due to moving belongings around but if you have 750sf of clear space to coat, you'll get on a roll and just knock it out. It's really not that tough if you plan correctly and we will walk you through every detail.
