Hi All,

I am new to the community and looking for some advice on my newly epoxy floor with full flakes.

I wanted to gives a quick background of this DIY floor project that I just completed a few weeks ago and hopefully I don’t miss leading anyone.

I started this floor a few weeks ago from scratch with basic steps; cleaning, grinding the concrete etc. after thoroughly cleaned the floor, I start applying the primer. I let it dry for the recommended times and start with base coat and full flaked my floor and let’s it cure.

Next day, I scraped the floor and smoothed it out and applying the urethane clear coat with anti-skid to the entire floor.

Final day, the floor is dried and I was able to touch or walk on it. However, because I didn’t have enough clear coat and that urethane does filled everything. The floor show some areas that is not clear and protected.

Because I am not happy with the results. I decided to rent a square sender using 80 grits and gone through the whole floor. As you all know, with the flaked floor, this sanding method will not get to the rest of the gloss areas.

The question is should I do a light surface re coat for the part I just sanded? Or just leave it as is?

The areas I did like the most is where the garage door as it doesn’t feel like enough coverage like the rest of the floor.

Thank you in advance.

I’d sand the entire floor and apply another coat of urethane. Check instructions for coverage and apply on thicker side of recommended spread rate.

Thank you for your detailed response. I sanded as best as I could. However, as you know the area in the flakes aren’t sanded. After the floor sanded, I had the floor cleaned and alcohol cleaned. I am going to give it a try and cross my fingers the second coats bonding.
