My wife and I had been apartment living for 8 years and it was getting very long in the tooth. Having a 94 Mustang for over 10 years in various stages of running and building, the garage space I was using/storing the car in was about an hour away each direction. This made for not much work being done. Not to mention keeping daily drivers' clean while sitting outdoors all the time was exceedingly annoying. However, I wasn't going to just buy a house for the sake of buying a house. We waited until that "perfect" one came along. Albeit it far from perfect when we took ownership, the potential was there.

We bought the house on Friday the 13th, 2014 and some may remember it was also a full moon that night. Apparently this won't happen again till 2049. So there you go, built in cool shop name. Full Moon Friday Garage was born!

Let's start off with some pictures from the listing:

this is from the corner of the driveway surveying the rear of the house and the garages.

interior of the big garage as it will be known hence forth:

Interior of the basement garage as it will be known:

yes, that's a shower. and a basin sink next to it.

There were no pics of the little garage or the wife's garage as it will be called. I will say it's a low ceiling garage though. At 6'2" i have to duck my head to walk under the door track.

Lastly is the shed. It's a 12'x20' space.

The focus was on the house throughout most of the summer as it desperately needed some updating. I won't go through it all but to give you an idea of what I'm talking about, i present you with this office:

yeah....no way that's staying.
stripping the popcorn ceiling and wallpaper:

feathering in spackle because the wallpaper took of layers of paint:

a more manly color:

and the hidden beauty under that godawful carpet:

and it's somewhat moved in state:

pretty much all the rooms have under gone similar transformations. The bathroom is the last bastion of ugly with it's pink/purple tiled walls. That will be changed this coming spring when we re-do it all. if you guys want to see more, i can post it or you can visit my other build thread found here:
http://www.sn95source.com/topic/4519-full-moon-friday-garage-w-attached-house/

Getting back to the garages....Here's their dimensions and layout. the basement garage in the middle has a curbed area for what I would call living space vs. the garage floor space. there is also a french drain in the center.

SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES!!!:rocker: I'm thinking the best way to organize this is by garage space. the main focus is the big garage as that's where the main car stuff will take place. However, a garage is a garage so i'll also touch on the others.

The big garage
Things to note about this garage is that it is heated. It's a ceiling hung, thermostat controled propane heater. 100gal tank is on the backside of the basement garage and also connects to the 2nd kitchen's range. It has a sub-panel that already has a 220v hookup for an air compressor. Also has a tie-in for a generator. Still have plenty of circuit space left for other future things like a welder. There is an I-beam with a hoist mounted to it so i can pull engines easily enough. There is also an attic space above with access via ladder. You can stand up there. There's really not much up there other than junk (old piping, some insulation bats, old tire swings, dog cages, etc.). I've yet to completely clean out this space. At this point though it will probably wait until next year. There is a downside though. the left bay is over top the septic tank. It has two clean-outs covered by plates in the floor. I say this is a downside because i'm alittle concerned about putting a 2-post lift in that bay, which was the plan.

bringing the mustang home for the first time. It got put in the big bay as I wanted to keep the work bench side open for when I do more project stuff. Just clears the incline. This is the sharpest incline of all the garages by the way.

and the necessary "in it's new home" photo

Now, the previous owners had left a bunch of junk laying around. First off though we had organized that stuff and thrown a bunch of it away we had a clean space to start with. The corner on the right is where the "junk pile" got consolidated to for the moment. I have to go through all the wood I've found throughout the property and organize it. the blue drum is an old oil container they left behind. Which I've put to good use multiple times already.

organized some of the tools and supplies better. still a long way to go though. You can also see the new mustang vert i got to mess around with. the goal being to flip it for profit and buy a lift with the proceeds.

Inheriting some tools:

and further organization resulted in a more permanent home for those new additions.

also got some fancy new-old Filko cabinets my Dad had in his basement for a good 25 years.

the plan is to clean them all up and give them a fresh coat of paint and a new lease on life.

same thing goes for this frozen vise once we break it apart and rebuild it.

This weekend we also got a generator as apparently we've been told by all the neighbors that we'll need it.

tested it out and it held the whole house without problem. Now that's more or less where we stand with the big garage. Let's switch gears to the other lesser interesting garages....

Little garage
The opener in the wife's garage took a **** so we got a new one for in there:

oh and this shows a little bit of what i'm talking about the stuff they left behind. the pellets are for the stove in the finished basement. a few hundred canning jars:

The basement garage
This is where I park my DD Infiniti. This garage houses the washer/dryer, water softener, water expansion tank, purifier and well pump controls. There is fuse panel for, what I know of at least, the well pump, exterior post light(since pulled out), and some wall outlets. The plan will be to pull these runs into the main house panel in the future. First thing though was to get a washer/dryer as they didn't leave any behind.

cleaned up the "storage corner". The plan is to move the white cabinet next to the basin sink and turn this corner into more shelving space. It's something that we don't really have anywhere.

and finally the shed. Plan is to turn this into a small woodworking shop down the road. I want to run electric to it sooner rather than later also. the intention is so that i can be messy with sawdust and not get it all over the car stuff. This was after a cleaning this weekend.

the man door for it never opened because the knob seemed to have been frozen. i took it off this weekend and destroyed it in the process. so that's the first thing that will be done to this thing is to get a new knob keyed to the house this weekend.

Congrats on the house! How nice is it having more space? Shower in the basement tells me you're somewhere in the Midwest, no? Awesome place with all the garage space, as well. What are your plans for the basement garage? Leave as is or get more cars to put in there? :) Welcome to Garage Journal!

Eastern PA actually. Your guess is as good as mine as to why they put it there. Only thing I can think of is because that was the only place to put it and they wanted/needed another shower. As for the plans of that space, that's still in the works. Half of me wants to frame out the curbed area and turn it into more livable space, which would also cut down on the heating of it. but then other half of me really likes having all that open area. For now though, it will just get some more needed storage shelving.

i've been lurking for a while off and on depending on the mood and flow of funds to garage projects. So here's a long overdue update on the garage activities.

to start with, replaced the wife's 04 civic with a 16 F150 lariot

this is the mess we made in the basement garage:
32948414821_cf026a6c56_k.jpg

We pulled the drop ceiling down because it was never code to begin with and we can't fit the truck in there with it that low. the rafters and the door way was built to be taller, but the previous owner dropped the door height and put in the ceiling. what you'll also notice is the shelving in the back corner helped a lot with the holiday stuff and other storage.

the plan was to keep the insulation and install it properly on the rafters. it had been just lain on top of the ceiling tiles... that unfortunately didn't work when we pulled about a metric ton of mouse **** every tile. it was really bad. so... in went new insulation:

i had to redo a lot of wiring he had run all over the place. and ran new wires for a new lighting schema i will be putting in.

the dog "helping"

i wasn't taking pictures much of the install and i now regret it.

up went most of the drywall:

32898425092_6155ad4422_k.jpg

the lights are now three sections which each will have 4 (possibly 5) 4ft LED lights in a string. each throws off 3,600 lumens and will give off a total of 43,200 lumens. should be bright enough. this is where that garage has stalled for the moment. had to shift priorities to other projects.

the 2nd kitchen in the basement got painted:

33677308366_a93643b8c9_k.jpg

33333897050_1b71e80808_k.jpg

we also removed the stove since we never used it and put the fridge there. I still have to finish the ceiling where the stove hood was, but i think that is going to wait and redo the whole thing with a tin ceiling. new sconce lights were also put in place. LED of course.

new role at work has me going crazy so i took a day off and built this just because:

and lastly, i sold the mustang convertible i was trying to flip finally. that paid for a new toy on saturday:
33940307522_45f3fe5589_k.jpg

it's wired in currently to test it out, but not mounted yet. i also got a huge mobile desk from work that is now in the garage that i don't have a picture of and i built a redneck couch out of old mustang seats. i'll get some pics of those posted soon.

spent the better part of the weekend in the garage doing a spring cleaning.

i finally got around to thoroughly cleaning it out and installing it properly to the wall.

base cabinet before:

34340195476_7c1021e42a_z.jpg

and all of it after. i should have taken more pictures. surprisingly, it's in a lot better shape then i thought it was. there is some rust, but seems all surface rust. the bottom of the top cabinet was bent up and i thought pretty bad. it's really not at all. i straightened it out. perhaps one of these days i'll actually strip it all down and paint it up again. but for right now, i kinda like the patina look.
34340195366_5f32d4c9c3_z.jpg

i had already started to fill it, but you'll notice on the upper left, there is some original parts that we still had. of course those are put back in their proper place.

and the outside closed up
34223079542_09ea127f56_z.jpg

and with the new to me table that i got from my mom's work. remodeling an office and they were going to pitch it.
34340195346_5e7d0faf5d_z.jpg

air hoses ready and waiting to be put to good use...

and already getting put to good use.
34381464385_d1afa76ecb_z.jpg

i've since filled it even more with odds and ends from cleaning out my parts storage boxes. little bits are now all in there and larger this are mostly sorted. will probably get a pic of that soon.

and then the next project that i started last night. i had this ugly *** 70's dresser from the previous owner who left it there. i hated it but it was useful for a time... I had pulled it out of the way to do the above with the full intention of getting rid of it. but then i got to thinking...i wanted a closed cabinet for my cleaning rags/towels and such. so why not reuse this thing and paint it up moar betta? i wanted it at the other side of the garage where i have my cleaning supplies. but it was too tall for that. but nothing a circular saw couldn't fix...
34250582491_20b4aa6487_z.jpg

and of course no post is complete with out the dog.
34340195306_f1e41535b1_z.jpg

he actually jumped right in there when i put the garage bed in it. might actually put some trim on it and finish it. who knows...

got it all cleaned up and threw on a first coat of paint. the paint was from the upstairs kitchen cabinets that we did that came out waaaaayyyy too purple. so we have practically a full gallon of it. figured why not. still looks very purple-y so the wife is going paint it black instead (left over from the master bedroom accent wall).

repainted the cabinet black cause it was way too purpley for a manly garage...
34369525156_0b8df4be43_k.jpg

and the wife then painted the "pinstripe" parts blue to match the ghost stripes on the mustang.

i think it matches pretty good (waxing pic)
33904909053_5c1869ec9d_z.jpg

but had to switch gears to the house project again. the shower had been leaking a bit for a while now, but the new thing was the tiles pulling off the wall. found out why...

glued on tiles over gypsum board.

34406509571_3ca4ddf94d_k.jpg

whole bunch of black mold behind it so had to pull off more than expected. original plan was to do only the shower for now and do the rest of the bathroom later down the road, but with the amount we pulled, have to get farther into it. not the end of the world, but just more money towards it than planned.

did the demo ourselves, masked up and sealed the room as best as we could, put a fan blowing out.

tub was heavy...
34536574575_ac824dde35_k.jpg

went all the way to halfway behind the toilet

and all remediated:

cutting and placing, then numbering the tiles

sunday will be the big day to throw it on the wall.
