My neighbor asked me to make something for him since he don't have a shop to work out of. That, and I do some metal work-not a lot though. Basically he needs a 18" diameter funnel with a 17" tube attached. The tube is ok to be a piece of 1/2" black steel pipe. He said it ain't got to be pretty, just functional so it can be galvanized or stainless; long as I can weld a piece of 1/2 black steel pipe to it (galv probably better). I don't know exactly what it's for; he didn't say and I didn't ask. Needs to be 16-22" top diameter he said. Where does one find a metal funnel with a dimension like that?

Why not just make the funnel out of sheet metal? Should be easy enough to make it whatever dimension needed that way.

Just get one of the cheap galv oil drain pans from one of the parts stores and braze or even use fittings/rubber washes to bolt to the pan.

I needed a funnel that could handle hot liquid going into a keg, couldn't find anything suitable so made one similar to what your neighbor needs, except larger diameter tube.

Here's what I did, grabbed a cheap SS mixing bowl from the 'mart.
cut a hole in the bottom with a jigsaw, added a sink basket and tailpiece for the outlet pipe.

took about 10 minutes total. spent maybe $10.

no more spilling hot liquid when filling the boiler.

works good for dumping used oil into drums as well.

I don't have a pic of mine but these two items combined is exactly what it looks like.

Brilliant... you win!!!

well to be truthful, in the first iteration I used a 99 cent car wash bucket. it didn't hold up and I made a huge mess...then I went to the SS bowl.

I suppose if one weren't concerned about gallons of boiling liquid, anything would work from a 5 gal bucket to a decent pail, I just liked the SS because it's easy to clean.

Why wouldn't you investigate the actual application before expending time and materials?

Check on CL or FB Marketplace and look for an oil drain drum with the adjustable funnel. Get one cheap enough and pull the funnel and pipe out of the drum.
