Anyone else notice some of the ASE test pictures couldn't exist (and function) in real life?

For example, my last test showed a vane type pump ask me what it was but the vanes had no way to move against the shell it was in, funniest part to me was the pump was a variable displacement type.

It was pretty much this but with the vanes attached as one unit.

Remember that in most ASE regular tests include "demonstrator" questions that are there for evaluation. These questions are not scored, only used for developing later tests. Did you fill out a comment sheet about the discrepancy in the drawing? Usually the test proctor will invite comments, but if they skipped over it you can always ask for a comment sheet. The comment sheets are IMPORTANT, it's the only way that the ASE people will know about the problem, and if there is a glaring error or typo (yes, it happens) they will not score the question. Sometimes a question passes through the writing process and the ASE editors make a small change because the original diagram wouldn't print properly. I've been a part of ASE test writing workshops several times over the years developing both HD Truck and automotive tests.
