I thought this was a funny ad. I have no idea what this thing was maent for, but the owner has a good sense of humor:

I have a very unusual item here. It's a "Karled Power Mallet" I have researched this and have not come up with anything. The sticker says Sacramento but no info on the net or even a patent. This mallet is very violent. I don't know what it was made for but it will smash the **** out of whatever you put under it. You could open coconuts, tenderize meat or crack walnuts. This thing weighs a TON and takes 2 hands to handle. It has a 1725 RPM motor with a u-joint into a gear reduction to a belt drive through pillow block bearings to a cam working the mallet. It's mounted on casters so it can be rolled around to what ever you want broken.
If anyone knows what it is, I would be interested to know or make an offer on this rare item. I would trade for an old school chainsaw. Call with questions or come buy and watch this thing do damage. 916-870-8765

I kind of want it based on these two sentences alone lol

Could be for hammering down seams that have been adhered with contact adhesive.

Other than that, dunno.

Device actually says "Power Mallet". It makes me think it was specifically designed for some task needing a "soft" impact.

The mallet head itself appears to be one of Garland Manufacturings Split-Head Mallets.

There's a leather working Power Mallet in existence today. It's reasonable that something like this could be used for leather working way back when...maybe.

I can't even ink of a time I'd want something like that for anything other than a good chuckle. My son would think its cool though.

Boy, I'd be a helluva popular guy during Pecan Picking Season...

Or when the circus comes to town and needs stake driving help...

Or when I'm trying to get my knuckle headed son to pay attention...

Damn, that thing is neat, I'm sending this post to everybody I know...

I'm glad it's along way from the Gulf Coast, or I'd have that dude already!!!

Sac area? Oh man...Why do you tempt me like this??? It's only 6 hours away. Hmm. Maybe I can trade the guy for some old plastic army soldiers, or my T Bevel collection...or...? I love to smash stuff.:rocker:

Hahhaha I'm crying over here I'm laughing so hard.

I want the damn thing. Would be a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon, playing a game of "will it smash?"

Love it, I would buy it if the price was right and I was closer

I guess it would be fun when you are sitting around drinking beer with the guys.
Challenges to see who will hold their hand under it the longest, etc.
I can see all kinds of "hold my beer and watch this" events . . .

Well, its no longer in the "former owner's" possession, (Nor mine, but we will sort out the logistics for that!) :D

I like that RR anvil idea, it can even be shaped for different purposes! Hmmm do I still have that big thick steel plate around here??

See who can hold their empty beer can the longest before it is hit.

Whoever ends upwith it should know where the closest urgent care that can set small bones is.

that would be me, and yes, we know the route there, trust me...

btw, not counting a trip out to PU (which gets rolled into some other travels is possible) It cost $40 and an IOU to Steevo for picking it up for me.

I couldn't resist plugging it in to see how it worked once I brought it home.

Holy $#!t, now I need Outlaw to come pick it up before anyone gets seriously hurt!

Actually, if you clamped it down, and with a platen/anvil under that mallet, it could be made pretty useful for metal working.
