so a while ago i walked into local pawn shop chain sol's, and purchased a beat up old chicago pneumatic 1/2 impact with the intent of using it until it broke at work, bought it for $15. got it home cleaned it up, it was in good working order and served it's purpose until the company bought new tools for everyone, so i took it home until it sat til now, when i realized i was going to need a decent 3/8 for this new job. and refuse to take my home tools to work. so i headed to the pawn shop intent to trade in my old cp772h (3/4" heavy duty) and the old cp9526 (i think) in for a couple other tools.. turns out they didnt want to give me **** for my 3/4 and i refused to give them a 350 dollar impact for 25 bucks....
i thought i was SoL because i was lookin at well used im31 snap-on that happened to be the only 3/8" they had at all. got it to the counter, and struck a deal and at the last minute i asked them to test it because i knew my guns worked as i had just recently rebuilt them and wanted to make sure the snap-on worked. and sure as sh**, it didnt even spin, just spat air out... i looked at the counter guy as he tried pretty hard to get it to spin (without even oiling it). and i sure as hell wasn't going to try to make it work for them. and i ended up talking them into just doing a straight up trade for my old 15 dollar CP gun (which still worked good mind you, it was just outdated and i had two other 1/2 cp734h guns that are far better than the old one).
and now to the funny part, i thought i was certainly going to have to tear it apart (which i still might to check everything out), and see what was binding up or broken, but after a couple of seconds of air and seeing how weak it was, i adjusted the power knob and turns out it was sitting on the lowest setting. but apparently the guys at the counter didnt even touch it. so i ended up trading in a decent cp for a seemingly very strong im31 (already tested it a bit and so far it works great for what i need it for).
not to shabby of a trade up in my opinion, especially because i needed a good 3/8 for small work.
