Furnace advice with hoist

First off id like to say hi. I browse these pages often but never posted. I have always found that someone here has been there done that at least once.
I have a 20x25 semi attached garage with a flat roof. I think it was once a car port and now has sides. I am a car enthusist and have way more cars than space. I work on them alot when its warm out. Winters are long and cold so id like to put a hanging furnace in there. I also have a max jax car lift with a car always on it and another below it. (Small cars) Im concerned that the car that is in the air may produce fumes from the gas tank. It not leaking or smelling just the factory vent system. Should i worry about this? The height of the garage is 8.5 feet to the ceeling. I dont want a fire or explosion. I would only run the furnace when im out there working otherwise i would turn it off.

Any advice would be great.

I have seen, on lists of things to be considered for how many BTUs are needed to heat a given space, that having/not having a lift is one of the things on that list and I was wondering why myself, othar than not putting the heater in a spot where it's too close to where the car would be when elevated to either hit the heater as it is being raised or possibly deforming a grille or something else made of plastic if the heater's too close to where the car is....

If you are that concerned, look for a separated combustion heater

Gasoline fumes sink to the floor, the unit heater is near the cieling. You can't do better than that safety wise.

Thanks for the quick response on this one.

Sounds like i may be over thinking it a bit. I just wanted to get a few opinions. It didnt even phase me untill i was raising the car up and thought about the fumes. Im going to contnue with my plan to put it up, i may have to relocate it to a different part of the garage.

Radiant tube heater with fresh air intake! Get the residential kind and put it in the corner facing out 45 degrees. Feels toasty, no wind, wont blow dust around while working and with fresh air intake, no fume burning.

I would not worry. Anything after close emissions systems is going to be sealed up quite well. Anything with ODBII will set a code if there is a leak, so that's a backup.

I store a car on the lift (in the winter), never worry about it.

I typically have a car up on my hoist in the winter and I have never been concerned or worried about ignition
