Fusion Joining Tool? What is this?

In a toolbox at an auction, I ended up with what looks like a 1000W heavy duty heating element with some adapters, mostly circular. The tool box was custom made for it with the adapters on posts welded to the interior.

A closeup of the label indicates it was made by Engineered Systems & Controls, Inc, and that this is a Fusion Joining Tool.

I looked up the company and it seems like they do some sort of plastic welding of tanks and pipes. I assume this is some sort of welder for pipes or inlets or ... shoot, I don't know.

I have no idea of its worth since it is so dedicated a tool, nor do I know if it even works. Haven't plugged it in yet. Even if it does, what the heck do I do with it?

Natural gas pipe amoungst other types of poly materials are welded verses glued.

As for what to do with it, it really has no use for anyone other then construction or repair, I can't thing of anything fun you could use it for. I'd contact a few plumbing contractors or eBay it, maybe make back a couple bucks.

Spent $5, mostly wanted the metal case. The rest of it? Dunno. Purpose built tools are cool, but unless you are in that industry, sort of limited.

Guess you could always start making your own custom sized sausages and have yourself one hell of a hot plate for'em :p

Hell I know, go get a box of bagel dogs and see how it does, that just might make the ultimate garage cooker. :)

Used to work w fusing liners for pipelines. Once HDPE is fused, it's ridiculously strong, like one piece.
