Their low free shipping threshold was one of the better things they had going for them, when you take that away they become just like everyone else.

From the consumer side, we might actually be better off with fewer things shipping for free.

When every small item "ships free", then the shipping cost for that item (alone) is built into the price. In the past, orders for multiple items could combine together for a much lower overall shipping cost, especially for large numbers of smaller items. Now, with everyone shipping for "free", there are no shipping discounts for multi-item orders- that's just extra profit for the sellers.

Amazon makes a huge profit, but they plow it back into infrastructure. The joke is on their shareholders.

I'm in my fourth year of Prime membership, it's not perfect, but I'm very happy with the service.

I have evidence showing my legitimate claims, especially when I was buying a lot from Amazon just around the start of the 2015 Holiday season, where items ordered, were poorly packaged, damaged, and some clearly looked as though they were previously returned. These purchases were mostly tools, perhaps coincidence? The proof is in all the pictures I had to take upon receiving the goods as well as reason codes I had to put in when returning items back to their warehouse. Does someone even read the reasons as to why we're returning items? It's absurd that no one ever follows up in this regard, and instead has the audacity to alert the customer over the return policies set in place. It's also sad to see that all the returns had to go back all the way to their Louisville warehouse (via UPS Worldport), when most orders shipped and originated out of their New Jersey / New York warehouses.

Clearly, poor logistical planning there; they could have set up a sub-operations at their New York / New Jersey warehouse. It makes sense this type of planning is not in place because there are indeed scumbags abusing their return policy, thus affecting innocent customers like you and me. Amazon needs to define what excessive returning is.

The idiocracy is a term that best fits to whoever oversees their logistical operations and returns center. Clearly, if they had stricter policy as well as better organizational skills, the restrictions being put on certain customer's accounts wouldn't be happening.

Just so everyone's aware, USPS rates did go up, and its rather expensive for Amazon to manage. Its obvious, the cash-flow is going towards Amazon's infrastructure as someone else put it.

Cheers

The "Idiocrocy" continues with your post... Amazon isn't gonna "shatter into pieces". You think Amazon Web Services is going anywhere? I guess Netflix should've conferred with you before jumping on board! What's your consulting fee? Also, it doesn't really matter how the Kindle's doing... it's a loss-leader... Amazon's e-book sales are up even while traditional publishers have seen a sharp decline. As to your blaspheming of Amazon's customer service... they're best in class. I have no doubt that scumbags abuse their absurdly lenient return policy. A Google search of "Amazon banned" turns up little more than hearsay with a handful of potentially legitimate claims shuffled in. If you have any substantive proof of your claims, please provide it...

Surely, after stumbling onto your well considered, insightful, critical analysis someone very high up in the Amazon organization will call you and offer you a lucrative executive position where you will be able to "fix" everything you don't like about how they run their company.

...and they'll fly you to the interview on a Unicorn.

I wouldn't mind getting an executive position on their board :p
Perhaps Donald Trump will eventually make things right
Heck, Amazon is in the works with China as we speak (Logistics opportunity with Alibaba.com ) Yikes

On the side note, here's a bummer. I was going to order a Gearwrench 18" Extendable Indexable Pry bar for $59; this was yesterday. Today, I checked and noticed the price went up to $72 while other merchants are still hovering around $57 for the same item. I debate my decision for continuing prime. Hopefully, I score some better deals soon for other necessities.

I'm glad I qualify for Student Prime, only $50 a year instead of $100. I really only use them for their free shipping though, I'm not a fan of their streaming service since they don't have an autoplay feature like Netflix does. I've only been a prime member for two years, but I've been using Amazon for a lot longer than that, and since getting Prime I've had a package late once, just one, so I like it. So much nicer getting packages in two days instead of a week.

True, but I can assure myself I'm not whining. I'm aware of Amazon's business practice, but truth behold, all companies work the same way. Amazon is just beginning... :D

I don't have any issues with shopping on Amazon at the moment, thanks to wiser and strict limits on spending expenditure. Smaller items are worth the wait though especially when the local stores don't carry any in stock. Really Home Depot? :lol_hitti

everytime I order something from amazon and it's small it comes in some huge box with packing bubbles. No wonder shipping is their biggest loss, they don't care about box size and cost!

I have had good luck with prime as well. Been a member for probably over 3 years now. Usually whenever I don't get it in the 2 days, it's because there was fine print when I ordered that said a different expected date. The item(s) were still "Prime", but sometimes they aren't guaranteed in the 2 days for whatever reason.

Rockauto or Advance Auto Parts (with coupon codes) are pretty much my go to place over Amazon.

For aftermarket car parts I go with the cheapest price, usually Amazon or rockauto.

For Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet, Mazda, GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Ram, Nissan and Volvo OE replacement parts I find http://www.tascaparts.com/ often has the lowest prices when I don't need the parts yesterday.

For power tools if Home Depot or Lowes has the same price as Amazon I often buy from them. Closest UPS Store to me needed to ship stuff back to Amazon is in the same parking lot as Home Depot.

I keep thinking about dropping Prime but Amazon does have some good deals.

IMHO Amazon is often the best choice for stuff that sells for $20 and under and Amazon has a lot of stuff that isn't available locally.

I bet Costco and Walmart love this announcement.

For me it doesn't make buying from WalMart or Costco seem any better. I go to the local Costco a couple times a month. Amazon sells many more items than I see either in store or at costco.com. I tend to avoid WalMart but every year or two I do buy a couple things from them. I don't see that will change.

Unless you choose pick up in store WalMart's free shipping starts with orders over $50. I'm not a fan of ship to store.

As always, YMMV.

I am starting to like my Prime membership less and less. For instance, i ordered brake pads late Tuesday night. Which would mean they ship out Wednesday, and arrive Friday, so i can do my brakes this weekend. The "guaranteed delivery date" even stated Friday. Well, they just shipped yesterday, wont be here till Tuesday! What is the point in offering two day shipping if you take 3 days to fulfill the order?

I used to be able to order, and they would ship it same day, and sometimes it would even arrive in one day instead of two!

Send an email complaining. They'll extend your Prime membership. Not a great thing, but better than nothing.

Amazon spent $1 Billion in shipping last year, that's billion with a "B". Ya got a sell a big ole buttload of widgets to offset those kind of expenses. I don't blame them for raising the free shipping threshold to offset some of those costs.

When it was free shipping and no tax I used to order from them constantly, heck I ordered most of the plumbing, electric and lighting fixtures for my new house from them. Now its not such a deal to use them, so I look to small vendors outside my state that don't collect sales tax and offer free shipping. If I can only find an item on Amazon I just log in drop the item in my basket and wait till I have exceeded the free ship threshold. So maybe only order 4 times a year now which does not make Prime worth the cost for me.

I have been trying my best to not smash my head into a wall every time you make a new post in the general forum but I have failed after reading this. Can't you find something better do with your life then make 50 threads about pliers everyday and talking about how the largest internet retailer is going to collapse because of returns and poor packaging?

The ignore list is a beautiful thing.....I've got about 85 members on mine, never miss hearing what they say.

I've been amazed by Meguiars Wheel Cleaner Meguiar's Hot Rims All Wheel & Tire Cleaner Spray. However, Amazon charges $5 only when order is $25 or more. After doing a quick search, found Advance Auto Parts charging $5 without any additional spending / limitations / and free In Store Pickup. Awesome indeed. :)

You have Prime. I was talking about the free shipping without Prime. Many people, including myself, have noticed that for a number of years now Amazon intentionally delays shipping on free shipping orders.

There are a number of other retailers that ship faster for a similar price so I go there instead of Amazon.

This is exactly why I only order from them a couple times a year. I find that to be complete horse sh!t. Trying to "squeeze" folks into getting prime.

I agree. I used to buy a lot from Amazon but a few years ago began to find things from other merchants like Newegg or Rockauto at the same price with faster free shipping. Then about two years ago I read that stockholders where demanding that Amazon start making a profit rather than using profits for expansion. Soon after I started finding better prices elsewhere. I have not bought anything Amazon for quite awhile. I still check Amazon but usually end up only reading the reviews. Amazon is still a great source for product information via their reviews.
