I know that there was a member or two looking to buy the 299 socket set from sears for a reasonable price. Well, right now it's on sale for 350$ - plus you can use bing cashback of 15% on top of that (of course, no guarantee that it will actually work for you) to get a pretty decent price of around 300$ flat (free shipping with shipvantage sign up). Although sales tax kills me at 10% - it's still a good deal if you don't want to wait to see what Black Friday will bring. Price probably won't be good for long - don't hesitate. Buy! Buy! BUY!!!!

Still reports at 348.83 for me - it's in red lettering below the 407.99 price. To get to bing cashback - goto www.bing.com and search for sears and click on the link right above the words "Get 15% Bing Cashback Site Wide. Shop Today and Save!". Should be the first link. In the upper right of the sears screen you should now see a tiny 'bing cashback' symbol / phrase. In addition, throughout the checkout process (in particular, on the last confirmation page, where it will be on the top, above the actual items you are ordering) there should be a line item that says - eligible for bing cashback of ~50$ in varying places.

I would recommend, strongly, that if you use bing cashback you do the following:
1. Start a new browser window (not a tab) and never use the back button.
2. Take a screenshot of every screen you reach (just in case something goes wrong)
3. Do NOT use any additional coupon codes.

Some people have had problems with bing cashback (I haven't, but you never know). Mine gets here Friday (with the shopvantage that I'll have to cancel).

Good luck! Post if you have problems and I'll try to help you out.

I remember when this set first came out, several years ago. It was $399, and I think I could get $50 off during December or January, or something. I tried to order it, but they didn't have any sets in stock yet, and they wouldn't back order it for me. Been waiting for a good deal on it, and I think this the best you'll see.

Now I'm getting worried about storage too. No way I can afford Hansen trays for all these sockets. I don't want a bunch of loose socket rails. Anyone have a good, cheap solution for storing 299 sockets?

HF socket trays. You have to re-number the metric ones and you may have to modify some of the pegs, but they're $8 (when on sale) for 3 trays in metric or SAE so $16 for 6 trays. Then since you get em in 12 point too in this set, just get a total of 12 trays. For around $30 you got everything on socket trays

I'm going to use relabeled harbor freight trays. Not ideal - they can't fit the larger size sockets because of where the peg is located for them (ie, they don't have the peg recentered for the larger sizes). The factory printed numbers they have on there are goofy - hence the relabeling. However - as you say - something is needed, and they are significantly better than socket rails and much cheaper than the hansen trays.

Thanks for the heads up! Also, if you use the link on the top of this page, you can get an additional 35 dollars off.

http://www.keycode.com/Sears_com/?cat=999

Brings the price down to $318 or so.

Don't use a coupon if you use bing - bing specifies somewhere that no coupon codes can be used. At least the last time I checked (a few months ago). Just be careful not to screw yourself.

Is it possible to use Bing cashback with keycode.com's $35 off?

EDIT: I see it conflicts with it's terms of use. If bing fails, the difference would be just over $10. But, you can use sears5off50 code, so the loss would be a bit under $10...

I don't use the Bing cashback at all. I don't like the idea of giving them my personal information, and they won't accept a PO box address. Bing can go **** an egg, as far as I'm concerned. For me, the 35 bucks off was a pretty nice alternative.

Well the Bing cashback program officially ends tomorrow, July 30, so you won't have to worry about it much longer!

For those tempted by the deal, make sure you order today or tomorrow!

Personally, I received about $1,000 ($978) from Bing cashback for various purchases that I would have made anyway. Hassle? Sure. Worth it? That's some serious rebate!

Anybody want to split a set with me? I'd love the full metric set and have zero use for the standard sockets...

I suppose I could just buy it and resell all the standards on CL or eBay...

I might. I don't need both 6pt and 12pt of each size...

And I just got this for about $290 if cashback works. Sears asked to send an email to bing for it, so hopefully it works :). (The total before was 334.29 with $47something in cashback)

...and be careful with that shipadvantage free shipping option. If you don't remember to cancel within the first 30 days, you'll be hit with the $79 yearly fee.

But it can be nice if you're working with a fastener on each side. Or want a set to keep in a travel box. Or in the house. Or in the car(s). Or for modification. Or...

It's a slippery slope, please don't push me
EDIT: I have too many posts in this thread, so I'm just going to add on to this one. My bing cashback is pending, so feel free to use the sears5off50 code. I also used the http://www.keycode.com/Sears_com/?cat=999 for $35 off and free shipping via sears's deal.

That's my story.

I really am liking you guys, I just ordered my set from the local sears, Little more than I wanted to spend, but it was still extremely cheap compared to buying them 1 at a time.

Btw I chose to do the $35 and the 5off50 and not deal with the hassle that is bing and the uncertainty of getting that money back. I also sprung for the shipping program and paid the $4 do get it here by tomorrow giving me the entire month to battle it out with them to cancel that membership.

Good call on going coupon codes instead of bing. I kind of hate myself for giving in to Microsoft and for signing up the the trial shipvantage thing. I usually make a point not to do those, and contantly preach at my wife not to do them. It was a weak moment, I've been wanting that set for so long, and it's a great deal.

I tried using coupon codes I found online, including 5off50, but they kept not working. I was thinking they weren't work in conjuction with the 5% and 10% off codes built into the $348 price. Now I'm wondering if my browser was screwing up or something. Whatever, it's a great buy. I wonder how many sets they have in stock? Will some of us end up on backorder?

I hear ya. I did do the shipping thing. Overnight shipping according to the breakdown I got at the end is going to cost them $111 :D Sorry Sears...

They don't really pay that much to ship to you - companies get significant discounts based on volume of shipment from the shippers.

Never had a problem with bing personally, they've given me lots of money which I have very much appreciated. The coupon code is definetly a good option. I have a pile of money sitting in my bing account anyways so I'd rather have the extra 17$.

The auto enroll on shipvantage is a b!#*& though.

My package just touched down in Kentucky...

I don't know - it's my first time to the rodeo on that one. I plan on calling next week.

To be honest though - they have to let you cancel in a reasonable fashion within the terms of their agreement, otherwise the gov't would be down their ****. Theoretically.

Probably not that hard, it's just the kind of thing I usually end up forgetting and getting billed $80 for, then have to fight it out with them after I get a charge on my credit card. There is information in their email on how to cancel, they just count on a certain percentage of folks forgetting to actually cancel. I haven't done a trial membership for anything for years because I have a tendency to let stuff like canceling slip my mind.
